    Caffine to help cut??

    My buddy is trying to cut as best he can for the summer he is 19 5' 11" and 202. He has started taking caffine pills before he runs and does abs everyday. What do yall think of this.

    good for energy on a calorie deficite diet not much for metabolism imo

    Not much, as w/out a perfect dietary approach, he could pop pills and run until the cows come home and it won't do much of anything at all.

    Running for fat loss is a bad idea to begin with.

    make sure he drinks a lot of water, the caffeine and cardio will dehydrate him

    Caffeine is a proven ergogenic aid for endurance events, this is why there is a upper limit set by the Olympics. It works by sparing muscle glycogen and increasing free fatty acid mobilization, therefore, using fat as fuel and preserving carbs. So, yes, it might be beneficial.

    Tell him to quit popping pills and drink green tea (for the caffeine) instead. And SwoleCat is 100% correct as usual - your friend's diet is far and away the most important factor.
