Its allthewhey. I was a bit sceptical at first but now i don't think i will ever use any other protein powder. All the powders i have tried before always had some kind of "chemical" aftertaste.. this one doesn't at all and it mixes like a dream.. you barely have to shake it for it too fully mix!

Reason why "proper" food is superior to shakes:

    Slower absorption.

As you may know all nutrients absorbed from the intestine must pass through the liver before entering the systemic circulation i.e. your muscles. The liver keeps a relatively tight control on circulating amino acids...up to 75% of the protein you eat will never make it past the liver, (an exception being the BCAAs which pass through the liver unmolested). When you drink a shake the liver is exposed to a massive amount of AAs and it extracts most of it from the blood to keep systemic levels from getting out of control, thus a large amount of that shake is "wasted". Now with whole food, the digestive process slows down the rate at which the protein is presented to the liver, allowing a greater percentage to pass through to your muscles.

nice info Dr - how do you think this applies to slower absorbed protein powders (eg casein, egg white etc?) - anyone know if it's true that casein will ( physically ) bind with whey & slow down its' absorbtion ??
