Conflicting freaking info.
Yeah so I'm reading this book. It's called the Abs Diet by David Zinczenko. He sais that studies have shown that Aerobic exercise is not good for losing weight, because after 20 minutes of cardio, your body has used all it's glycogen and hunts for the easiest source of energy, which is apparently protein (so it eats your muscle). He even sais that once you pass the 20 minutes, you burn about 5 grams of protein for every additional 30 minutes of exercising....which apparently means a lot of people on this board have been burning 5+ grams of muscle a day from cardio? That really sounds like a load of bullshit. Why would muscle possibly be easier than fat?
If you havent heard about the book its apparently a national bestseller and the guy is the editor in chief of Men's Health and its got all these quotes on the back from special dudes saying how great the book is.Last edited by SpinalTap; 07-06-2005 at 12:40 AM.

its easier to burn fat. Otherwise cutting wouldnt even be possible.
The body wants to hold on to protein because its crucial for its survival. Fat while important doesnt have the same importance to the body.
Protein is also hard for the body to utilize as energy. Takes alot of energy to make it into energy(hence the thermic effect of protein, burns of like 1/4 of the kcal in the process). Fat on the other hand has almost zero thermic effect.

That guy has no ****ing clue what he's talking about, lower intensity cardio shows a preference to using FFA's for fuel. This is basic Physiology and it most certainly cannot be debated.

Sounds fine to me.
You allways use some carbs, fat and protein when exercising. The ratios change as the prefered fuel (carbs) gets used up. The body slowly switches to a higher proportion of fat and protein. 5 grams of protein is proberbly nothing compared to the daily protein turnover. if you can gain a poxy 100 grams a week in muscle then the protein usage for creating new structures must be many times what you use while doing cardio. Hell your body probebrly downgrades many times more each day just as a natural cell death/birth process in your muscles.
I am talking about the 5grams value and not that we shouldent do cardio. Infact at 5 grams i am happy to do cardioLast edited by Wilderbeast; 07-06-2005 at 11:16 AM.

It never clearly indicates WHAT FORM of cardio he is referring to.
If it's HIIT, then DUH, this guy is an idiot because you don't do that typically for more than 20 mins, and many eat BEFORE as they use it for CONDITIONING, not FAT LOSS/LIPOLYSIS.
If it's 65-75% of the MHR for a period of 40-45 mins that he is referring to, then by all means, this guy has the intellectual capacity for understanding that rivals only a rock.

First....you have to fight past the almost blatantly homo-erotic cover
Then...you get to the pools of misinformation and crap.
The only interesting and promising thing I have seen in that magazine is the add for "The Liberator" it has in the back sometimes LOL
The Liberator is basically se*x furniture and has a whole bunch of hotties lyin on it in the ads. Almost worth the 3.95 itself lol
