    Brim's Barbeque pork rinds

I was wondering about BBQ pork rinds as part of a pro/fat meal.

1/2 oz of these babys are...
    70 kcals
    4.5 gms fat
    1.5 gms saturated fat
    8 gms protein
    0 gms carbs

So if i doubled it to 1oz we are talking,
    140 kcals
    9gms fat
    3gms sat fat
    16 gms protein
    0gms carbs

if i add some turkey to it, i can get the meal up to
    200 kcals
    9gms fat
    3gms sat fat
    32gms protein
    0gms carbs

    thoughts???

It has potential...and pork rinds are tasty..but i wouldn't depend on 'em as my main source of dietary fat. Can't be too healthy..and they ARE better sources of fat.

namely plant-based fats...as usually they add additional nutrients: i.e. fiber (in the case of nuts and avacadoes), or phytonutrient (in the case of olive oil and flax)

So for maybe 1 pro/fat meal a day if im ALSO using flax/olive oil for my other pro/fat meals you think it would be ok?

Seems like the fat would be comparable to steak fat which has been approved around here lately. maybe even lower in saturated fat...

The saturated fat here is not the prob...the prob i perceive is that the pork rinds in questions'll have trans-fat in addition to the saturated fat.

The high temp used in processing WILL alter the fat's structure...In addition

Can't be a healthy addition to your diet...not as a daily thing.

    A tasty snack...yes

Something to snack on when you're out at a party and don't want to break your diet? Yea

    [edit: damned typos]

In addition...there is the potential for ingesting other harmful substances produced in preparation... namely heterocyclic amines which are a by-product of said process.

I occasionally grill my own rinds..on my georgeforeman grill.

If you wanna make these an addition to your diet...i'd advise you buy them raw and gril em on your own...so you can control the different factors...and make em a positive addition to your diet.

You'd have to add some more cruciferous vegetables to your diet additionally...to help cope with the extra free-radicals etc.

It says no trans fats on the package, but i guess you have to take that with a grain of salt.

No big deal. I can stick to flax. I will enjoy these when im itching for some potato chips, and leave the day to day to flax/olive.

Damn it! I was so excited too...lol

    Thanks for the advice bros!

I used to eat those instead of chips when I wanted to crunch on something.

The hot ones are the best w/diet pepsi!
