    egg whites

    hey
when people talk about egg whites as a source of protein do they mean raw or cooked. does cooking food or eggs ruin or mess with the type or quality of its protein? thanks
    flex

ps one more thing, is all the bad stuff like cholesterol and fats located in the yolk of the egg. is the white 100% protein?

Cooked egg white has about 5 grams of protein. Yolk is fat and cholesterol however current research says that the cholesterol in eggs does not raise your serum cholesterol and that cholesterol levels are mostly genetic. After reading this I asked my MD who said true according to the a.m.a.

    Oh yeah, Pete?

    You think you're so smart?

What's the square root of the amount of protein in 28 oz of top round steak divided by the amount of sat fat in 16 1/2 TB of natural peanut butter plus the amount of calories burned while playing a 1/2 hour of tennis against Pete Sampras minus the amount of carbs in 14 64 oz Slurpees from 7-11 times the amount of calories in 6,019 heads of iceberg lettuce? hmmmmm?

You can have them either way ... The main thing regarding cooked or not is Salmonella ... You must be careful ... That aint a fun illness , But I have eaten plenty of raw eggs , just lucky I guess , I do make sure they are very fresh and I don't let them stay around the fridge too long. Always keep refridgerated ... If your not dieting here is a great drink ,,,

    10 oz OJ
4-6 egg whites ( raw ) depending on size
    2-4 oz milk
2 tbl sp Sugar or sub/ sweetner to taste
    splash of Vanilla extract ...
some Ice and blend frothy .... MMMMMMMM

you wont even know there is egg whites in there ..

way too many carbs for a pre contest diet btw .. But a maintenance and/or a gain would be nice early in the day ... good luck

...are we talking medium, large, extra large, or jumbo eggs? How many can you eat before you begin to drive people away?

My numbers were for the large ones.

I eat a minimum of 20 egg whites per day and have no problems.

I should put this in the recipe area but:

    1/2 c oatmeal
    4 egg whites
    1 whole egg

mix it together and cook them like pancakes. if you want you can add SF syrup or regular if you don't care about the sugar/cals or do like i do and put some PB on top (like it's regular butter)

    That's for a mini-meal. Just go to

    1 c oatmeal
    8 egg whites
    2 whole eggs

    for a real meal.

And you can always use all egg whites or more yolks depending on where you're at diet wise.

That was supposed to be MY smart ass answer but, when Bert gets home from work she logs on (since I'm usually on throughout the day) so I ALWAYS respond to posts without first checking who's logged on. Damn

If I eat 20 egg whites I would kill everyone in the building by a terrible death!!

Eggs do not lose any protein value through being cooked.

One small point raw eggs white contain avidin which deactives the body natural biotin therefore supplementation of biotin is necessary. The negative of this biotin problem is impairment of fat metabolism and exhaustion.

Biotin is normally included in a B Complex.
