more protein required when cutting or bulking

i keep hearing different answers on this

i am currently under the impression that more protein is needed when cutting because of the lack of carbs

and less pro when bulking due to high Carbs

but why do i keep hearing different answers - i have just read the "how to bulk thread"

and it advocates 56% protein 33% carbs and 11%

i'm sorry but this sounds more like a cutting diet to me

i would personally think pro 40%, Carb 40% and Fat 20% would be far more appropriate

    anyone agree/disagree?

I think you can cut or bulk on a 40/40/20. Carbs and insulin are protein sparing, so I'd say that technically you need less protein while bulking. Higher protein intakes when dieting are beneficial for a few reasons:

    Thermic Value
    Satiety
    LBM Preservation

However when I cut I do 40/40/20 and again the more carbs you have the less protein wasting will occur. This is the nature of insulin.

yeah i was under the impression less pro was needed while bulking

in the how to bulk sticky it advises a 220lb man to get 420g of protein a day
this seems excessive - surely, if not using steroids , this will be very hard to synthesis
being on gear is a different matter - but there was no mention of that in the sticky

Thats almost 2g per pound of Body weight, yeah thats a ton. YOu should shoot for 1-2g per lb of LBM. So in the neighborhood of 300g would be more like it.

for me.......as a harder gainer.....i always liked 50% carbs, 30% protein, and 20% fat. it always worked best for bulking. and i consume 1 g/lb of lbm for protein.

yeah thats the thing - everyone is different

but i think carbs (low GI) are more important than pro for most people while bulking
