    protein shake times

My friend says he wakes up and as soon as he dose he grabs a quick protein shake. like 20-25 grams worth. He says to do this as to stop catabolism . Then he waits a little bit takes a few supplements and them breakfast. Also I have heard of people consumming they're prework out meal (usually a protein/carb shake) like 10 mins before the workout. Anyone got any opinions about these two tines?

You don't need a shake when you awake, just go about your business and eat breakfast as usual. If you want a shake go for it but its not required. Try and eat your pre workout meal like 45min before your workout. 10min might make you a bit sick.

I know a lot of people that have a shake as well as there breakfast. I also do this but only as a way to give me a good start towards my calorie intake goals.

whey is good in the morning as it gets digested very quickly (within an hour)

i try to get a mixture of fast acting protein eg Whey
combined with a slower digesting protein such as egg whites,
along with a good, low fat/GI carb source (normally oats)

    Sounds about right.
50g whey with water with my pills. Wait 30 min for that to clear then 12 egg whites with either whole wheat toast or oatmeal and a big glass of OJ.

Bananas are a good source of energy and the body is depleted of all nutrients on the morning...

I do the same thing, have a whey shake, and then 30-45 min later my breakfirst, I'm always worried though that most of the protein shake will get burned up for energy since the body is so depleted after a 8 hour fast
