Ok, now how does Flaxseed oil help?

I read here and there about adding it to your diet but I don't understand the real benefit to it.

Can someone help?

its just one of those heart healthy fats that you should ad to your diet. can reduce cholesterol and bp and there are other benefits. im not an expert on it but the stuff i do know is enough for me to use it.

why flaxseed oil though? does it have any better benefits over the likes of cod liver oil or bog standard sunflower oil??

Flaxseed oil = high in Omega 3's, contains Omega 9's

Cod liver oil = also high in Omega 3's

Sunflower oil = high in Omega 6's

All EFA's have their benefits. Adjusting the Omega 3-6-9 ratio is important to healthy fat supplementation though. By this I mean that consuming 80% of your daily fat intake from an omega 6 source is not considered "healthy". I believe an accurate ratio would be 1:1 (omega 3: omega 6) and a 20:1 (omega 3/6: omega 9).

My fats are mixed. i rougly have a little over 14g of "bad" fats throughout the day but main source comes from EFA's.

In the new M&F magazine they say eating cottage cheese right before bedtime, or any source of casein protien along with 3 TBS ( tablespoons ) of Flax Oil will help slow the protien breakdown to help prevent a catabolic state even longer.

yeah but it takes fat to burn fat the typical male athlete is permited almost 90 g's of fat per day, of course those are healthy fats people so stear clear of sat's fats if you can although im sure some will slip by..

Yeah no shit.. but 3 tbsp of flax is around 45g of fat. I see no reason for someone to have that much flax in one sitting.

yeah i wouldnt take that much at once, but the biggest leaniest guy i ever met ate a whole jar of all natty PB a day

go with the cottage chheese and about 20-25 almonds or peanuts or a mix before bed......I also have this as my pretraining meal.......have your simple carbs post workout and at breakfast (fruit and oats)...for the flax, use it during the day with tuna or as a salad dressing.....

1 tbsp. of flaxseed oil contains 7 grams of fat...last time I checked anyways. That would only be 21 grams of fat. Still high once you add in the fat content from the casein protein source...but if you have slacked on the fat intake all day, I would rather take it in than miss it.

I was referring to the Vitamin World's High Lignan Flaxseed Oil...and you were right, it is 14 grams/tbsp. I've been using the softgels, which are only 1 gram fat/softgel. Nevertheless, it is a lot of fat to consume at once.
