Can you eat too much protein?

    Specifically when cutting?
Is it possible to eat too much protein - to a point where it will make you gain fat (after all it does have a calorific value)
Also would this depend on what type of protein? Would ''slow release'' protein like chicken be better than ''quick release'' ones like whey?
Am I right in thinking a quick increase in amino acids can cause an insulin spike (eg. from hydrolysis of say whey protein isolate)?
    hmmmm?

yes you can eat to much protein in the sense that it will give you so many kcal that you will turn fat. This is mostly because the body will be more inclinded to store carbs and fat under those circumstances. Not as much the protein beeing turned into fat.

Protein does elevate insulin . But I dont know how much or the difference in insulin release from different protein sources. Im not sure if its directly related to the speed of the protein either. I think it has more to do with the aminoacid makeup.
I bet giantz knows the deal on that though.

yep just learned this in my nutrition class, protein will be stored as fat if too much is consumed and the person is not exercising

stuff like chicken and eggwhites would nbe difficult to consume too much of(not impossible though) while cutting. YES, whey must be watched closely. When i would cut and rely to much on whey, i would get smooth. Keep whey for morning and PWO while cuttting. Also, soy can make you retain water and gain fat. When i switched to soy once i gained 8 stubborn pounds. So i notice when i eat real food for my protein, i am much harder and dry, by about 5 lbs.

You can eat too much protein and yes It can get stored as fat. However the conversion of proteins to fat is a horribly ineffcient one and considering that protein has the highest thermic value of all the macro's its best to consume exdcess protein because it A. elevates the metabolism and B. Is very poorly convered into fat and C. is asscociated with high levels of satiety. Meaning basically protein is your friend.

In terms of a quicly digesting Whey yes it can raise isulin. Obviously not to the extent of glucose but it most certainly will elevate plasma insulin . The only food that will not create an insulin response is pure fat.

    Swole,

Haven't we covered this 900,396 times before....Both PWO and PPWO meals, should be pure lard, preferably bacon fat out of one of those tin cans you drain it into.

Next time I'll charge you for that advice
