    Microwaving vegetables

    For a pre workout meal, an hour and a half before I workout, I usually have one 8 oz chicken breast and a serving of complex carbs (brocolli, green beans, baked beans, asparagus, brown rice, or a sweet potato).

    My question is, is it ok that I cook the vegetables in the microwave? Or will doing that kill all the nutrients and vitamins?

    I know it's best to steam vegetables, but is microwaving them ok?

    As far as I know you're alright microwaving them. But since when have brocolli and asparagus been considered complex carbs?

    From what I read in the cutting sticky, since green veggies are fibrous, you don't count the carbs in your intake because they have a negligible effect on blood sugar levels. Also your body can't break down the fiber.

    microwaving veggies is the worst way of preparing veggies. The uneven and localy very intense heating makes it very unreliable and alot of the vitamins and phytochemicals will be ruined.

    Either heat it on the stove(dont let the water boil) or steam it.

    well microwaved veggies are better than no veggies at all. But just dropping them into hot water is easy and much better.
