Eating Before You go To Bed
I'm 6'2, 218 lbs. I recently was 236 lbs...not all muscle obviously. I want to be around 200 lbs now, barley any fat.
I tend to eat right, workout almost everyday, and do a fair amount of cardio as well.I've limited the drinking when I go to clubs, or at least have tried to.
But I eat somtimes before I go to bed and am wondering what you've heard on this. Does it slow your metabolism down? On the days that I don't eat before I sleep, i wake up feeling hungry, and "leaner" if that makes sense.
What is your advice on this? Thanks.

M-F, I train, have my shake around 630-700pm, then have a nice hot soothing bowl of oats and casein about 5 mins before bed............
well, actually, I never have done that before, but SC tells me I should!

I eat and walk to my bed...doesnt always workout though...Ive had trouble getting to sleep ever since I was an innocent child...

For cutting I heard you're not to eat any thing two hours before bed. It does make your body burn what ever stores you have built up through the night. Also makes that morning empty stomach cardio all the more effective.

i think its actually better to eat right before bed whether you're cutting or bulking. if you're anything like me...i love sleep, and gget 8-11 hours of it every night. so, going that long w/o eating is probably not the best for preserving muscle.
whole foods are fine too. i go for egg whites and natty pb...yum!

Which is a terrible call btw. Flax will not do a thing to slow down the digestion of a whey shake before bed, seeing as the flax is already in a lquified state. You should always eat something that digests slowly at night and make sure its a solid meal.

That's why I love you Giantz,
So go with Tuna, and Natty Peanut Butter???...

And by the way... what do you do? or recommend?

That honestly sounds fine. I usually will cook up some meat and have some green veggies and and some flax before bed. Or some cottage cheese.

pro/fat
?????

too many people advocate whey before bed
WHY???
its a very fast digesting protein
how is that a good idea before bed??
i despair i really do
if your gonna use a shake then at least use casein
the best will always be cottage cheese and almonds IMO

time out.....remember the scenerio.........Finish traing at 600pm, pw shake of dext and whey at 630.....back to the office.........then I'm home around 815 with bed about 9. Do I have a carb/pro meal or has enough time gone by where I can have a pro/fat shake....keep in mind, this is about 5 mins before bed.

after your workout out are optimum for muscle glycogen replenishment
the fact that your going to bed doesnt matter - u still need the carbs
i always make sure i have at least 2 pro/carb meals after my workout
preferably more - although like u, bed time gets in the way of that

One facet of the game that confuses me and makes me the most scared...even when bulking....never understood how dudes could wake up at midnight and slam food....shakes, etc.
My brother competes, and he used to have a myoplex carb sense bar around midnight everynight. I always thought he could get away with it because of the gear he was on, but I had losing the abs........even now they are fading and my diet isnt really that much in excess.
So, if you were me. Youd have your dext shake around 630-700 and then a meal of carbs and protein right before bed?? I have had a fat/pro shake actually in bed for the last year or so. Guess I should make it an oat/whey shake? It's ok to have two shakes back to back as my final 2 meals, right?

well if you are concerned about your abs - i definitely wouldnt be drinking muscle milk before bed like you mentioned in a previous thread
IMO your PPWO meal should be of the solid variety
remember your going to be asleep for 8+ hours - and that whey will be digested in an hour
i workout similar time to you and will have DEX/Whey (but only if i'm running slin - otherwise its oats/bio yog/whey)
then my next meal will be chicken and rice ( i have really gone off cot cheese recently)
then bed shortly after
the only thing i 'eat' in the middle of the night is a pro/fat shake
and thats not all the time - just when i get over 200lbs and need extra cals
if (like me) your worried about losing your abs when bulking try oats/whey PWO
instead of the dex - most people report the same glygogen replenishment and recovery with less chance of gaining extra fat
plus its healthier
hope this helps

oats/whey immidiately after is it.......Ill give it a shot....maybe a banana too?
Then I'll just have some peanuts and cottage cheese before bed....it's cool that it's literally IN BED....I mean sometimes I'm so drained I eat laying down, read for a few minutes and then crash.........
-
01-31-2006, 07:25 AM #36
yeah banana good be useful with those oats
cottage cheese and Peanuts???
where are the carbs?
-
01-31-2006, 07:39 AM #37
I thought the oats would suffice PW.......no? I think I can only manage 2 shakes....should one be pro/fats and one pro/carbs?
Show me your meal plan, if you would bro.....lean bulking, abs are still fading, depressing.......maybe it's the 250mg of test?
why dont YOU toss in a banana or too???Last edited by Kurz; 01-31-2006 at 07:42 AM.

id say it depends on your goals
if he's bulking id def recommend carbs in PPWO as glycogen replenishment is optimum for 6 hours after anaerobic exercise
according to a study giantz/johan (cant remember which )
20 -40g carbs every 40 mins -1 hour after workout (for up to 6hrs) is a good example of optimum glycogen replenishment
correct me giantz or johan if i have got any of these details incorrect in anyway...... (i'm only going from memory here)
