Confused on Carbs and the GI index??

I mentioned to some in my town that i was eating some Lima beans in a few meals in the week for carbs and they said they were very high GI and should not eat them. I hear brown rice, Sweet potatoes ETC. Thing is i found a online GI scale that you just type in the food and it comes up with its number and all kinda stuff and brands. Lima beans have 20g per 1/2cup. The GI on limas is 32 i believe. Brown rice is for 1 serving 36g carbs and its rated close to 50.

So are beans ok to eat for carbs? I eat a ton of rice, brown and white. I eat sweet potatoes as well. BUt love Baby Lima's with spray on cant believe its not butter. Are they ok to eat? I am 15 weeks out right now and it seems like every time i find a good carb its wrong!! LOL, man i just want some variety! Is the GI scale something to go by?

    Thanks
