    Sweeteners

    Hi Guys,

    I am on a low-carb diet, and although sweeteners have very little carbs, I have seen many which have dextrose in it - a definite no no. I wanted to ask what you guys thought was the best sweetener for me to use - especially since I cannot get Splenda or any other sucralose type product here (I know EVERYONE overseas swears by it )

    1. Canderel - www.canderel.co.za
    2. Equal (I'm sure you all know about it)
    3. Pure saccharin tablets, 30mg per tab
    4. Stevia

    PS. I am trying to get a non-nutritive sweetener, and the ones with dextrose eg. equal have very little but I use a fair bit and it DOES add up unfortunately.

    Well since on a low carb diet, how about just sucking it up and skipping the sweetners. I prefer honey over all other sweetners.

    Honey is half fructose half dextrose, and while natural, youre better off with something like aspartame in my opinion, which has lactose and is lower gi

    Sucralose or Splenda is really by far the best. Can you order it mail order? I used to get it from South America before it became available in the USA.

    If you absolutely can't get it, go with stevia. It's all natural and virtually carb free. Sodium saccharine has a bitter after taste and has been linked to cancer. Aspartame is okay but loses its sweetness when it is heated. Stevia, is the best alternative.

    yeah well, I'll still take honey over all those artificial sweeteners anyday.

    I have to use a sugar free sweeteners because from what I have learnt about my body is that it doesn't like sugar, that is my biggest fat gainer. I can eat PB and Flax all day and be good but if I get a little silly with the sugar I can really start to notice it.
