Can I increase healthy fats instead of carbs?

    Hi guys,

    My stats
    Age - 30
    Weight - 173
    Height - 5'8
    Goal - clean bulk

I consumed 3200 calories (40/40/20) for roughly 8 weeks but I didn't gain weight at all.

Protien source - 2 scoops of isolate, 1litre egg whites, 1 or 2 Chicken breast, 1 protien bar

Carb source - 180gms of oats, 750gms of yams or white rice if don't feel like eating yams

Fat source - ground flax, coconut milk, less sodium peanuts and pistachios

If I increase my carb intake I know i will get bigger but I also get fat around my waist which I don't want.

Can I increase my calories by consuming healthy fats?

    My macros would be 306p/350c/97f.

    Thanks in advance.

    Not really...

I think 3200cal is too high to be maintenance for my body weight but I am not gaining weight so either I am not calculating my calories right or metabolism is crazy.

What do you suggest I do?

    Workout plan

5 days a week - slight variation of HIT. I find it very taxing to only take 60 second breaks. So I do 2 feeler sets and 1 working set with double drop. I start my set when my body is ready instead of timing 60 seconds.

I have done two 4-week cycles of this approach. Today is the start of my third 4-week cycle after a 2 week break.

i suggest you figure out your maintenance cals or TDEE, there are lots of ways of finding it. it gives you a pretty good estimate of what cals to eat at to maintain your current status.

you are saying that you have not gained any weight but have you noticed any changes in body fat or body composition?

    Thanks for your comments man.

Last year I was dirty bulking - was very unhappy the way I looked at 190 lbs so I went on a caloric deficit at 1600 calories - I lost fat and muscle...fml

Then started 3200 calories + HIT. I have re-gained most of my lost muscle but not getting bigger.

Now I am trying to figure out a strategy to get bigger without getting fat. Should I increase fats or carbs or both? Can't increase protien - already at 300 gms.

    Thanks again

Slow and steady wins this race!

Your body may be still adjusting to all those changes. You may want to stay eating the way you are and see what the mirror tells you. Another question are you weighing yourself at the same time under the same conditions everyday or week?
