    Is high sodium bad

Im starting a new diet, im eating a lot of canned foods for the calories, but i checked my sodium level and it through the roof. Is it bad to have a lot of sodium. And if it is, what harm can it do?

    thanks

I go to college full time and work full time. i dont have enough time to piss. plus i am going for testing for my stomach (might have colitis or ibs). Doctor told me not to eat anything raw or with seeds. He said for now canned food isnt bad, but then i looked at the sodium like i said. when i have steak ill have instant mashed potatoes with side of gravy and ill eat peanut butter and triscuts. or cottage cheese.

Reasonably high sodium is bad (sometimes very bad) if you have hypertension... in normal healthy people it's usually ok but never great IMO... don't stress about eating a couple cans of tuna or soup if you are college age and not fat, though.

If you "have" to eat canned foods, look for the healthy brands, I forget the brand name ut they little to no sodium ands they make a wide variety of foods.

Since you have these health concerns, this might come secondary. But, I've found by cutting my sodium intake down i can lose some good water wieght. I dont know if it actually makes you retain water, or if the foods im eliminating do. But it works for me.
