Oatmeal: Raw or cooked????
Just curious if there is any nutritional difference between raw and cooked oatmeal. I usually grind up oatmeal and mix w/ my protein shake for a meal on the go. I know raw eggs have a different nutritional value than scrambled eggs. Thanx!!

If you eat it raw drink a lot of water so you dont get dehydrated.

I use original oatmeal not instant. I already drink lots of water. I just want to know if there is any nutritional difference between raw and cooked. If it is better cooked I will cook it. If it is the same I will continue to eat it raw. So what is it guys????

rambo & ItalianMuscle need to read the threads more carefully!!
Bro I don't think it's going to matter which way you eat it...I'm not 100% sure though (scientifically speaking)...but the only concern is the dry oatmeals absorption of fluids in the digestion process. LB was stating a similar point to make sure that you do drink lots of water if you eat uncooked oatmeal.

I don't think it really matters much. Reason being when you "Cook" oatmeal you are not really cooking it are you? I mean you boil some water and add your oats the oats then absorb the hot water and that's that. Not really cooked is it? I have confused myself so now im not sure, but i don't cook it anyway so i guess it does not matter.
I usually just throw a half cup in with my eggwhites and vanillia extract and ice.
I guess i would have to say i don't know.
peace out

No, when i said it was better, i meant that is was better for you nutritionally. From what ive heard several times raw oatmeal retains more of its value than the instant, which has been made to heat up quickly. So i do believe there is a difference in values.
