    Insulin spikes

everytime you eat anything with carbs, does it give you an insulin spike? or is it only when you take in sugar you get insulin spikes? Also on my off days all of my meals are protein/fats except for my breakfast in which i add in a 1/2 cup of oats. Is this ideal? Also should protein/carb meals be only consumed PWO?

Carbohydrates cause a release of insulin from the pancreas. It's not just sugar - it's carbs. The idea is that certain things cause a larger and quicker release of insulin - hence the insulin "spike." This is idea PWO - this is why it's recommended to consume dextrose in your pwo shake.

As far as commenting on the rest of your diet? What are you trying to do? bulk, cut, maintain, etc??

I personally consume more carbs than some recommend...but i wouldn't recommend using just pro/fats alone on off days...
