    Carbs and Fats

O.K, I am getting the hang of the seperation of carbs and fats but still am not 100 % sure how much is acceptable with the other. For example my protein shake consists of 8 grams carbs (only 2 sugar), will a teaspoon of flax with this shake be to much together and risk storing fat? Any input appreciated.

    Thanks,

Flax in protein shakes should be ok, as flax contain monosaturated (healthy) fats.. just dont go throwing too much jif peanut butter in your shakes as they contain a shtload of sat fats and some trans fats too

I'm no expert, but I wouldn't think that 8 grams of carbs with flax would promote fat storage. Just don't go eating steak and peas or something like that.

You should be okay w/those ratios. I usually like a powder that has less than 3 grams of carbs per 22-25 protein. Lower the better.

The kind of fat in Flax Seed doesn't normally store in fat cells.

I try not to consume much more than 5 grams of carbs for a protein/fat meal and vice versa for protein/carb meal. so far 5 seems to be the magic number. However this wouldn't be 5 grams of pure sugar...usually this is the left overs from any green veggies or nuts (which are naturally occurring sugars, but not the same as high GI carbs)

Where did you come up w/this?

You do realize WHAT you eat w/fat, no matter WHAT the kind of fat, will determine if it gets stored as fat or utilized as energy, right?

Although good fats are easily oxidized which more likely will lead to a thermogenic response rather than a storage response, they also promote a high insulin response when combined with a high carb meal. So in theory, DBarcelo and Swole are both right!
