    I'm in trouble

I am currently on week 3 of my diet, almost to week 4. I have lost 2 noticeable inches from my waist and losing about 2.5 lbs a week. But about week 6 I am going to Hartford to stay with my ITALIAN family.....4 days....that is 4 days of through the roof carbs. I can't tell grams no cuz I'll get my @$$ beat and she cooks like she is cooking for a family of 24 everytime I come up.....if I can somehow manage to keep my carbs between 300-400 for these 4 days, will it be too too devistating to my progress?

you've just got to use self-control. If you know you can't not eat thier , then just eat small portions and pass on all the added extras like parmessan (sp?) cheese, etc... And if you can avoid a food thats bad for you altogether, then do it. At the end of the time spent with them just get back into your diet of eating right.

yup but chances are you have huge dinners where everyone talks for at lease an hour and it can be so tempting.. use an apptite suppressent for thoes days its better that you dont eat then that you over do it with carbs cause i know once you get started theres no end insight.. and i noticed i've been recommending appittie suppressents all day today so please excuse the compulsive repetivness..

I agree though about the appetite supressant Elliot. If you don't have the self control, then that would be the next best thing.

Won't do you any good. ALA is not a thermogenic. It only helps the uptake of supplements in a "favorable" way.

Actually.. the R-ala helps to prevent the carbohydrate from being turned into fat...

allowing the muscle to use it for energy instead of storing as fat.......

That statement has not been proven very effective. And IF it did work, you would have to take a very large amount of it to be very effective. If I remember correctly it worked with a 5% success rate when used in experiments.

I did not know that 5%...

i think i am getting some results... or ???

The issue becomes i am getting non typical results from the amount of aas i am taking.. so i am giving some success to the R-ala...

later i will run a controll use of the product to see if it has the same effect..

    thanks

Exactly, its disrespectful not to eat, and with my grandpa having ran with the south side mafia (Capone's gang) in chicago back in the 40s...I try to be a good boy cuz she straight scares the sh!t out of me lol. So the real question is, do I eat all that I can and risk gaining fat, or steer clear of temptation/meals while I'm there and risk going catabolic??

I think you will be alright if you cheat for the four days...Dont cheat for the next couple weeks until you get there...You'll gain some weight, probably a lot of water weight from the carbs you'll consume, but I dont think it should set you back more then a week...Thats my opinion but it's because I LOVE food.....

Do the mediterranean diet while there...ahah

"The important aspects of the Mediterranean diet are high intakes of cereals, grains, vegetables, dried beans, olive oil, garlic, fresh herbs, seafood, and fruit. Wine is taken with food in moderation. Meat and poultry are also eaten in moderation, with poultry more frequently served than red meat. Animal fats in the form of butter, cream and lard are not included in the diet."

"high consumption of fruits, vegetables, bread and other cereals, potatoes, beans, nuts and seeds
olive oil is an important monounsaturated fat source
dairy products, fish and poultry are consumed in low to moderate amounts, and little red meat is eaten
eggs are consumed zero to four times a week
wine is consumed in low to moderate amounts"

Don't think you are at the musclular stage where 4 days of lowering your protein will make you catabolic...Just my opinion! Therefore dont try and consume 250-300 g's of protein, 300-500 g's of carbs, and a ton of fat...

being catabolic for 4 days isnt bad, infact you wont go catabolic since you;ll be eating something.. my phylosophy is that its better not to eat then stuff your self.. if your loose 3 LBS of muscle in thoes 4 days i would be in total shock.. they ala does help channel carbs it does not do magic tricks and make them disappear..

Personally, I don't think it would be that big a deal if you ate whatever for those 4 days..I did 5 days once and I didn't really notice much of a change in how i looked. Any minor changes were gone by a week later anyway. How often are you gonna have the opportunity to eat awesome home-cooked italian meals for four days straight? as long as you're not preparing for a competition or something, i don't think it will hurt you too much. Keep in mind, you need to eat 3500 cals more than maintenance to gain a pound of fat. That's about 700 cals. OVER maintenance each day you're there. And even if you did gain anything, as soon as you go back to eating normally, it'll drop off just as fast.

4 days isn't going to hurt you, it more likely will help your progress along.

It will give your body a break and you might even get some rebound muscle growth if you've lost any while dieting.

Now if that's not the truth I don't know what is....I just won't fret about it, I'll be concious about it but not overly worried. Like DR said, maybe it will bring the fullness back to my muscles that a cutting diet can sometimes take away...just wanted to see what everyone thought.
