    STEAK! It's what's for dinner

Okay I see everyone's diets, chicken, chicken, chicken. I'm tired of chicken. What about the beef? How bad is it to incorporate steaks, and beef into the diet. Bulking or cutting. I like the steaks and burgers. What should I eat with them or not eat with them. I know everything is okay in moderation but I rarely think I see anyone say they are eating beef. What's up?

I usually eat tuna and chicken, but I definitely dig the beef. Mostly 85% lean ground beefvcuz lean cuts of steak are pretty expensive on a college students budget. I'm also kinda curious to see what to and what not to eat with it.

There's nothing wrong with beef, but I think a lot of people don't make it their main source of protein because it also has a substantial amount of saturated fat, which is not the preferred source. Personally, I don't eat much of it because it also has more calories per ounce than leaner meats and I am on a relatively low-calorie diet compared to the men on this board. However, I'm all for 93% lean ground sirloin when I can find it, or the occasional steak. I think most people will tell you not to eat carbs (except for fibrous veggies) with steak because combining fat and carbs in one meal can lead to fat storage, although this is hotly debated.

Recently, I've incorporated much fatty steak into my diet. Small amounts of it really satiate me for long periods. I find that 4oz of fatty steak will satisfy me more/longer than 12-14oz of chicken breast and so forth... And fat in the absence of carbs is what most of my cutting cycle is based on, therefore it's perfect for me. I mix it up during the week, of course, into about 1/2 fish and chicken meals and 1/2 beef meals (not to mention other sources of protein such as shakes and what not).

I also like to substitute lean protein sources such as chicken breasts or fish with lean cuts of steak for a change. Nothing wrong with filet (except the price)!!!

Plus, doesn't beef have some of those valuable vitamins/mineral things that we can't get from chicken or fish?

If i could afford to eat more beef then d@mn it i would..i love eating beef, but it's getting pricey because of all these atkins freaks out there....dont worry bro beef is still where it's at...the slow digesting aminos combined with the natural source for creatine has many many benefits.

    davor,
Your location says minn. I am from wisconsin, both are big deer hunting states. Do you deer hunt? The reason I ask is, deer venison is supposed to be one of the leanest meats, second behind elk of the rockies area. If you butcher the deer yourself, you can even be more particular in cutting out fat. I eat venison 4-6 times a week.

The ground venison is roughly for
    3 oz.
    158 cal.
    6.9 grams of fat
    22.5 grams of protein

For venison steaks, I believe the two strips of meat on the sides of the spine (back loins ) are the best choice for venison steaks:
    102 grams cooked
    155 cal
    2g of fat
    32g of protein

If you do not believe in personally shooting an animal, by a 20$ deer tag, im sure you could find alot of people who wouldnt mind shooting an extra deer and giving the whole thing to you. Cant find a deal like that at the grocery store, 20$ for a whole deer.

Lean cuts of beef are awesome for a diet, but they get pricy for the good quality. If you can afford it, then by all means incorporate it. Beef is rich in anti-oxidants as well.

If you want the beef, than just do it! After a while chicken can make a grown man crazy! Give me a big juicy steak anytime!

haha...that's nothing. my cheat day yesterday consisted of pancakes, bacon, a mrs. field's cookie, a godiva truffle and cadbury mini eggs...among other things. I feel like i have a chocolate hangover right now. I never want to cheat again.

How many calories should a cheat meal have? cause mine had to have at least 2000. Also, is cardio advised on a cheat day or on the day after one?

It's a CHEAT meal...it doesn't matter. Cardio is a matter of preference. I usually don't do cardio on a cheat day but I always do it the day after (except for today because my cheat day made me sick :spudnikhu ) So, i guess my answer should really be...not so much that you're too sick to do cardio the next day. that's just stupid
