Better to think of it as a cheat meal rather than a cheat day or cheat all-day. If you cheat for one meal its so easy to get right back to your normal routine. But if you go crazy all day, it takes some serious will power to get back on the diet track!

i agree that a cheat meal is better than a cheat day just because a full day makes me feel disgusting and gluttonous...but i definitely don't think it's harder to get back on track after a full day of cheating. If anything, it's easier for me because i've usually overdone it so much that I don't want to look at anything with sugar or saturated fat again. If I only had one meal, the next day I'd probably feel like i didn't satisfy my cravings enough, and I would already be counting the days until my next binge. But that's just me...I think people should just do what they're most comfortable with.

I agee with this- at first it is tempting but after the meal is over it feels horrible.

I cheat all day long...I try not to totally stuff myself, but if I'm hungry, I eat.

I tried the "one cheat meal" approach and it seemed to slow my progress down.
My thyroid and IGF-1 production need a good kick in the ass after a week of super clean eating.

Your body and progress over the weeks will dictate how much u can cheat on this "free day".....

Realistically, if u BUST (__!__) the other 6 days of the week, u have nada to worry about. But busting wazoo means different things to different people. On my idea of bustin azz, it's fine.

I have a cheat meal myself one on saturday and one on sunday. I usually treat myself to a huge helping of STEAK. Its what keeps me sane from eating eggwhites, tuna and chicken breasts and protein shakes all week......... and its a welcome incentive for me to look forward to after a hard week. But i always try to avoid eating to the point of feeling like a complete glutton

Hell, I wouldn't consider STEAK a cheat at all....provided of course carbs aren't mixed into the meal!

Ha, when I cheat I'm talking about some of mama's famous spaghetti!!!

He he, mama is Italian too!

On a side note, I like this board you guys have going here. I'm from gotfina (RIP) and have been checking out the other boards as of late. Having a guy like SC around of course gives instant credibility.

well i do cardio 6 days a week including the day that i cheat and i lift 3-4 days per week. i count calories like a mad man and have been lowering the amounts i take in as the weight comes off....my goal is about 175 and 8% fat by May 1st...give or take a few (more wanting the fat percent than the weight). hopefully this qualifies as busting ass enough to merit a full cheat day because this is what i have been doing...though i recently wrote down the things that i ate and found that i didnt go much over my maintenance calories....i know a calorie is certainly not a calorie, but this was somewhat comforting in trying to justify what damage i did. of course starting in may i will be dieting for a show and i will probably discontinue the use of any cheating 2-3 months out.

On a cheat day I've found the best success by eating "clean plus carbs." In other words, don't go hog wild on fast food, etc and fat/carb in the same meal and you should be ok to cheat all day. Of course, I usually have ONE meal where I neglect to care whether or not I mix fats & carbs and I top that one off with a big chocolate cookie.

this is what i really want to try and do....i have had a couple of healthy cheat days as i call them and found that it was just as satisfying...i stuck with sugar/fat free foods, but still high carbs and then had a meal that was all out bad. it worked well..the thing is, most of these healthy carb foods are more expensive than their high fat/carb counterparts so that sucks and is why i tend to eat them...also now that i quit my job at a restaurant and wont have access to free food i think that healthier cheating will be easier because i will be stuck paying for EVERYTHING.
