Problem with Keto-stix, going into ketosis!

My girlfriend is on a keto-diet. This is her 4th week of her diet. She tested herself with the keto-stix the past couple weeks and she was almost dark red, which on her keto-stix is the deepest stage of ketosis.

She has been on her peroid this past week. And when she pee's on the keto-stix now, it dosen't even show a trace or sometimes it shows just a trace of ketons passed. She counts all her carbs and is taking in less than 15 carbs a day.

Could her being on her peroid effect the keto-stix reading?

Not sure about the period thing but it is my understanding that ketostix detect "excess" ketones in urine. If you are readily burning those ketones for energy, the sticks might not show that you are in ketosis, so ketostix are not always reliable. As long as the carbs are in check (~<20-30 per day) she's most likely in keto.

I know that my girlfriend gets very lazy around the time of her period, therefore, no ketone burning going on there...hence the dark reading on the ketostix due to "excess" ketones. Just a thought!!

Possability. Some say the different bodily fluids that are secreted during your period have a good chance of giving an incorrect reading.
