College student, question about eating good
Heres my dilemma...Im tryin to eat as clean as I can but at school its very limited and lots of times I just eat anything just so I eat. Sometimes I can only grab a Tuna melt or a cheese steak. I try ordering it with double the meat and I ask for them not to put so much crap on it...though I know its still not the best...but im not home and dont have the right things for cooking on my own.
Another thing I do is if I stop at a Wendy's real quick...I usually order 2 grilled chicken sandwiches and just eat the chicken and throw everything else away...Is this ok??
Now before you rip me apart, please understand my situation at school...If it was at home, i eat completely different.

Yeah, eating out is easy these days on any diet you do. If I'm lookin' for a low carb meal, I'll go for burgers ( I utilize healthy EFA's as well to counter balance saturated fats), but also utilize grilled chicken and ranch w/out the bun and things of that nature. Grilled chicken ceasar salads, no croutons and extra chicken, are a good choice too.

Sounds like you are making the best of it, and are making good decisions. BTW, tuna fish will save your life.

agreed with rambo...at walmart a can of tuna is 50 cents...also your school must have a deli. though cold cuts arent incredibly great they are much better than a tuna melt and a philly steak. also salad bars are now a must at schools too. eat the salad put on some turkey from the deli...also im sure they serve burgers as well.....hell even i eat a bunless burger from my school now and then.....when they do serve some thing like chicken or fish just go up there and take as many as you can and put them in a ziploc to take home with you. also you can eat their tuna with mayo, just dont eat bread and then like swole said supplement with EFAs for a better lipid profile....all in all it could be done...while at school i managed to lose almost 50lbs total from freshman year until now.

I always carry a protein shake, a bottle of water and a bag of almonds in my backpack. Just find a good routine and stick to it.

Yeah, I still take all my vitamins, EFA's, E's, C's and, minerals, and all that. Usually I eat a lot of Tuna, but i get it from subway...I know its much better to get it from a can, and cheaper, but when I gotta run to class i dont have time to drain the water from the can and all that crap. usually Ill go to subway and just eat the tuna and not the bread, or if i do eat the bread its on whole wheat.
Also, I get in a post workout shake at the gym, It usually consists of a meal replacement from Labrada or Myoplex with a banana and about 18-20 oz of Apple juice. And I usually take some protein shakes during the day, depending if I feel like farting all the time or not, lololol.

I'm in a similar situation with school. I find it best to prepare meals ahead of time and put them in tuperware that way you can grab them on the go. I usually throw a few cans of tuna with some boiled eggs, onions, and a little mustard for a meal. Great meal on the go. I also carry protein shakes when I have a long day. Hope that helps.
