How many people here still use the keto diet?

Ok guys, nutrition is not my best area of expertise. I'm learning alot by running through the posts and reading what swolecat has posts (thanks swole). Anyways, how many people here still use the keto aka atkins diet? I've seen guys running the peanut butter diet but I definately couldn't stick to that. I pretty much hit a stopping point in my diet and decided to try the atkins to swithc it up. I'm in day 4 now and feeling tired as hell. I may have been better off upping my cardio but wanted to try this instead. Before, I was eating clean and cutting carbs around 2-3pm everyday...Does the keto diet work for you guys? I have a few loacl buddies that swear by it ( maybe it's just the difference in body types)...

lol you should get used to the no carb lifestyle after the first 1.5 weeks.. and yeah i stay keto on my days off.. :-\

What's funny is I swear I was like 15 when the Lyle Mcdonald wrote his "Ketogenic Diet", and after reading it I thought it was bull****. I remember getting flamed off of Message boards and IRC after telling everyone that I thought it was a horrible diet, that would make you lose muscle and feel horrible. Maybe people might believe me now, maybe not. I still think it's horrible, Atkins too. Ironfist, there are great weighs to manipulate your carb intake to feel great and still lose fat. There are a bunch of ways that wont force you to drop to the evil Atkins plan.

i would never subject my body to ketosis again. i would do more cardio, change my lifting routine, anything at all to not resort to feeling like total @ss all day and night. i base my diet on the unofficial cutting sticky thread and it's been workin so far for 3 months. i adjust calories as the weight comes off and that's it.

Atkins/keto/etc. are/were a great beginning to an overall idea about controlling insulin and glucose management. However, it falls WAY short of what would be ideal in changing ones body composition and keeping those changes for LIFE through food managment and exercise.

Unless you stick to those diets for LIFE, you'll have more rebounds then Ben Wallace or Dennis Rodman.

Ive heard that being in ketosis for longer periods of time becomes tolerable, but with the CKD, your going in every week. i cant go through that adaptation every week, I'd jump off a bridge. Restricting calories and seperating carbs and fats as well as keeping carbs focused around PW nutrition works for me. I still feel crappy, and candy bars talk to me, but at least i can stomach my meals. Oh, and drugs, lots of drugs.

You get used to the low carbs after about a week, but be prepared to feel like **** for the first week or week and a half! In my opinion after that it is all in your head. I operate great on my 30-40 carbs a day (about 100 on workout days). I have no problems and the fat is coming off at a great rate. I currently have a journal going in the members pictures forum, that is showing my week by week progress on this kind of diet, just in case you want to check it out and see if its for you. The big deciding factor for me on whether or not I use this diet again will be after I start to incorporate more carbs back into my diet. So far so good though.

I don't think a keto diet is the best way to go. Controlling carbs is a good idea, but there's no need to be extreme about it. There are better ways. Studies have shown that atkins-style diets cause more weight loss in the short-term, but long-term comparisons have shown little or no difference between keto diets and more traditional diets. I think this is probably caused mostly by loss of water weight very quickly, which gives people the illusion that this kind of diet works better. And like Swole said, the focus should be on finding a good permanent lifestyle change, not a diet.

Any body have an example of the CKD diet? I haven't tried that before. Any websites or place I can get info?

if your going to be following that diet in the above post but you want to bulk just raise the carbs in your first meal, pwo and ppwo, and raise your protein throughout all your meals

Some people need up to 10 days to get into ketosis.
As far a s CKD diets go, you are not thrown completely out of ketosis on your carb up days. You still are burning fat as your main energy source, and when you start back on the extreme low carb part you should be right into it again. You don't go back to the way you were before when you carb up, that is a misconception. However, if yo over do it on the carb up days you can have trouble when back on the low carb part of the diet. You have to experiment wit different carb levels on the weekends.

It is fun to try, but as for a lifestyle change it's not my thing... I do, however, use alot of these principles in my diet. My body does fine in the absence of carbs and I can tolerate it with ease. I don't get crazy from not including them in my diet. As long as I get my PWO dextrose, I really don't concern myself with carbs the rest of the time. (I do occasionally eat oatmeal or oatbran for meal 1, though)

I don't carb up, or cheat on a regular basis anymore, either. Omitting these recently, I've noticed fat loss greater than I ever could have imagined. I think I have, at least for the moment, figured out my body chemistry enough to rid fat efficiently...

The low carb has worked for me. Although better the first itme through and harder ot keep up down the road. The crap feeling for me left after about four days. It depends what you are looking to do I would say. There no way you can lose 12-14 pounds in a couple of weeks without killing some of your hard work.

keto the worst diet ever. unless I am making money like the pros I would never do it. on keto I can not think or even move. everything is slow motion who wants that. low fat diets are slower but alot better and it could be sustainable for long time. your body craves carbs not fat so you can't beat yourbody to the ground. low fat diet with decent amount of carbs with lots of protein is the only way I will go. saying this I have never been under 10% though but I know it is not the diet it is me giving up. but by the end of summer I know I will be around 5-6% I won't give up.
