Weight Watchers called me obese.
I went with my sister today cause shes doin this weight watchers thing and they weighed me just for fun. According to thier pamphlet im 30 pounds over my max weight and am considered obese......**** and i thought the fact that my abs were startin to come through meant i was losin fat. Oh well time to drop the weights and just do cardio..J/K.
My real question is how effective is this weight watchers stuff??? I was a little concerned cause they dont measure body fat at all, just weight. Anyone know anybody whose done this and how well it worked??? I made her look into this sight for some weight training advice and stuff so we'll see. Any insights would be appreciated.

Usually those tests are for the AVERAGE person who is not into fitness. Anyone who outweighs Calista Flockhart by 2 lbs. or more is considered obese by their guidelines. They also are trying to sell their service.
You may like to know that even GNC's calculations showed me being overweight by 53 lbs, and said my ideal weight for my height was 175 lbs, LMFAO!!!!!!!!
They obviously don't take into account muscle mass, which is a HUGE factor, nor bone structure/density that I know of. Them telling you that you are that much overweight is absurd, especially when they have no regard for your actual bodyfat percentage. "Weight" on a scale is NOT indicative of seperating fat, muscle, bone, water, etc.
If you can see even the OUTLINE of your abs, you are far from obese!!!!

gnc told me im 55 lbs over weight with 183 being my ideal.. i havnt stoped drinking and smoking the magic dragon since

The BMI method of determining ideal weight is extremely unreliable and should only be used as a guideline for the average inactive person. While many institutions use this, most do (or at least should) recognize the fact that it is not accurate for athletes. Body fat is definitely a better method to use. Weight Watchers works for the average overweight middle aged person, yes. It is basically a "simplified" ( I think it's actually more complicated) version of calorie-counting. However, if people do not do it the right way (with exercise and healthy choices in mind), it is easy to lose muscle and decrease metabolism as well. My mom lost 40 lbs on weight watchers, but she also walked on a treadmill for an hour 5-6 days a week and took my advice on how to make better choices. The reason I don't like weight watchers is that a soda has less points than flax seed oil. Obviously, the latter is healthier, and even if the portions are equalized so that they are both the same number of calories, the flax oil will be more points just because it has more fat. It's ridiculous.

BMI is ridiculous. The BMI of an NFL running back is the same as that of a fat couch potato at the same height.

When Arnold won Mr. Olympia his BMI was 33 or morbidly obese i love out country's system for weight management.

At my biggest size I was 6'5" and 325 pounds at around 6-8%bf. My "ideal" weight at the doctor's office for my size was 205-210 pounds. That meant I was over a 100 pounds overweight. Hmm....
