Colories too low means fat storage??

    OK...

I was told last night by a friend of mine that when you cut your calories too low below maintenance level that your body goes into starvation mode and starts to store everything as fat. He said anything below 500-700 calories under maintenance a day and your body will do this. Is there any truth to this? Right now I am at about 2200-2300 cals a day and my maintenace is supposed to be around 3100. I am still seeing perfectly find progress, but I was just wondering if there is some kind of truth to this. I actually have noticed that if I do eat a couple hundred more calories a day (like 2500-2600) the fat seems to come off faster. What are your guy's thoughts on this?

I don't think that is necessarily enhances the storage of fat. I believe that your body goes into starvation mode, and in turn your metabolism slows down, slowing the fat burning process. I was at even less calories than you, and lost fat, its just that at a certain point your metabolism will die if not stimulated properly AKA cheat days
