Can a IM inject turn into a SubQ?

I use 1" needle and rotate between glutes and thighs. If the 1" didnt reach the muscle in the glutes would that now be considered a just a sub-q injection? I'm not a fat ass, but I do have fat on my ass and just dont know how thick my fat layer is.

If the needle length is shorter than the depth of the skin & fat layer then yes, the injection will be a subcutaneous injection not IM.

What is your bf%? If your low body fat, a 1" needle will NEVER be sub-Q anywhere

I'm 22% bf and I've been injecting with a 1' needle into the glutes but I haven't been bottoming it out. Not sure if I'm going IM or SubQ to be honest. How would I tell the difference?

Well if your not stabbing all the way then its tough to say....

    ponder these two studies...

    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubme...169899/related

average gluteal SQ thickness was 15.92 mm, a 1 inch needle is 25.4 mm. Mind you this is from Korea.

    But,

Computed tomographic measurement of glute... [Can Assoc Radiol J. 2007] - PubMed - NCBI

average gluteal SQ thickness for males was 23.1 mm for this Canadian study.

So as you can see it varies greatly from person to person. Being that your 22% BF, I would go with a 1.25" needle for IM, and a 5/8" needle for SQ for the glutes to err on the safe side
