New Doc is Changing My HRT

I had to switch doctors because of a move. My former Endo had me on 200mg of Test-Cyp per week (Injections). I have naturally low test levels

Now my new doc wants to take me off of (Injs) and swith me to the Test-Patch.

Has anyone ever tried the patch? Does it work as well as Injectables?

I'm happy with my 200mg per week, but my new doctor says "NO ONE PRESCRIBES INJECTABLES ANYMORE."

What do you guys think? I should probably just find another Doc!

You got it, keep shopping for a new doc. I have no experience with the patch, but hated the gel. It was a daily rollercoaster. peaked early in AM which brought on the 7th grade erections and oily skin...then no drive at night. terrible. Furthermore, i have been taking propecia for years and using the gel was a conflict of interest imo.

    Thanks Vettte,

I think the search for a new doctor begins Tomorrow. I just wanted to see if there is anyone who thinks the Patch is as good as injections. I know it sounds strange, but I actually look forward to my weekly injections.

My Dr. would not let me do injections, if I wanted inj he said had to come in every week. Not an option. Tried the patch, it was OK but didnt give me what I wanted. Did not try gel. Then I changed Dr. and this one allowed me to inject but now seems to want blood tests all the time and my insurance will not pay for all this so now I am going on my own and having own blood work done and own TRT plan. I kinda got off your question but the patch did not work well for me, at least not compared to injections, but compared to nothing it works. Drs are getting so gun shy about AAS and prescribing injections for AAS.

Is Androgel similar to the patch? Has anyone ever used the patch?

    Thumbs up

My doctor has me on "Testim" (Auxilium Pharmaceuticals, Inc.). It is 1% testosterone gel, 50mg of test per 5g tube. When I started my test levels were 80 (Very low) after using the gel (1 Tube ED) for a month my levels went up to 1000. The doctor then had me throtle back to 5 times a week. Nothing but positive effects for me.

Your new doctor is dead wrong... more and more endocrinologists are scribing injects.

The problem with transdermal testosterone is that it must pass through your epidermis and subcutaneous layers. In the subcutaneous layer you have adipose tissue (fat), that is if you have a healthy bodyfat percentage, and that tissue contains alot of aromatase enzymes which convert testosterone into estrogen. So essentially, the testosterone your body needs is being converted into estrogen before your body can use it in its original form (testosterone). So you're left with sub-par testosterone levels and elevated E2 levels... causing you sex-drive/libido issues, slowly increasing bodyfat, and everything else associated with low test and high E2 levels. This doesn't happen to everyone, but why chance it?

My libido is just fine. I don't know about this conversion to estrogen, but in my case I, apparently, did not have that problem. My estrogen levels are "below normal" (My Dr. says that's NOT an issue) and he had to back down my dosage of Testim because my Test levels were a bit high (1000).

yeah I was on testim orignal also in the begining but as it turns out I needed to be taken down too in the early part but low and behold I had a blood drawn 4 mth into therapy and my levels were under a hundred. I had to stop using skin lotion and being a black male a bruthas' gotta use lotion or look ashy. So either way I had to wait until I had taken 2 showers with special soap then put the testim on. and it still didn't work. creams didn't do me any good but made me feel good for about and hour or two and then I crashed hard. So while they may work for some I wouldn't reccomend them to anyone. Just a waste of money in my opinion. Also now they give the test cream to females for libido problems. There are Dr. prescibing test cream for the female clit.

Scotty a guy that use to be on here had a dR. that gave him test pellets that where injected into his hide. That seems pretty cool to I'm still going to look into that.

See it depends on what dr you have. My family dr. said no one prescribes the patch anymore....too much trouble, and skin irratation. I have been going to him for injections every three week, 250mg depo test. He won't do more than that and suggested I go to a specialist so I have an appointment with a uroligist, mar. 1. I self inject 100 mg of test cyp the 3rd week after my 250mg from the dr. because I start to crash hard. I am hoping the uro will allow me to inject every one or two weeks instead of a cream.

I was on a cream before from an anti aging clinic and since doing the injections I can say there is a world of difference between the two. I much prefer the injections. Go for the injectibles IMO. Good luck and keep us posted.

I would ask the Dr.; Why the switch?
And why patch instead of a gel?
And what's wrong with what you were doing?

If his answers do not statisfy you, go elsewhere!

I was on the "androderm" got the doc to switch me to injectables 100% better! Tell you doc you swim a lot or have a hot tub and the patch will come off, sweating at the qym makes them fall off too. It's injections or a new doc!
