    Sciatic nerve

Never liked poking IM, waiting to hear back from my clinic on SQ tes shots from now on, per Bass advice. Not questioning a senior member, but was always told IM is best and only way (bad info I suppose). Anyhow what scares the hell out of me is the thought of hitting the sciatic nerve??? Anybody ever do this or know of someone? I was told always hit the upper quadrant and have been careful, but my ass is taken a beating, almost as if scar tissue is developing. How far away is the sciatic nerve? Once on the left side (which I have trouble with) I was lower and more centered, was fine but was I getting close?

upper outer quadrant and never hit it - hundreds of injections - no worries - scar tissue will form - i can feel it crackle through it sometimes - prolly best to rotate through quads as well as glutes if you can, but not necessary imo

i actually forgot the upper quadrant part for quite sometimes and prolly went mid cheek several to many times (just to ensure not pinning same spot to avoid possible scar tissue ) (6 years) still never a problem but have been staying north of late

well i just started IM injections doing Glutathione, boy i sure glad i am doing SQ for my test injections. i never came close to hitting the sciatic nerve but some times i feel i hit a bone or something! ouch! well you saw my blood work results, very impressive based in 120 mgs ew my free T was above normal and my TT was in the middle, exactly where it needs to be. believe me once you get on SQ you will never go back to IM.

The only time something like that happened to me was when I first got on TRT and a nurse gave me the injection. She pinned right smack in the middle, and it didn't look like any small needle either. From thereon, I began doing my own, and training my wife to do it. As others stated, stick to the upper/outer region and you will be good to go. Always aspirate !

The first question i asked at the pharmacy when they gave me the T and syring. They told me that the siatic nerve is very deep within the glutes and that there is no danger to hit it. I always inject in the upper left glute even so and never had any issues.

Ouch ouch ouch ouch in this video the stab, man that shoulder injection sure looks like it had to hurt. For some odd reason i don't stab, the first time i did glute i gave a small stab and was very suprised how easy it went in. Now i just put the needle on the glute and simply push a little, no stabing, the needle goes right in no pain. I also do the same thing when i inject near the upper tight and hip joint there is a very soft spot there, i just put the needle in place and push lightly, it goes in easy once more. I am not sure i would do this if i had to stab like they do in this video. OUCH ONCE MORE

A while back I googled images for location of sciatic nerve and got a good idea of where it is. If your in the upper outer quadrant your fine.

All good guys, V specifically to ur point, always aspirate . I'm sure Im gonna take alot of shit for never doing it, I know what it is, just havent done it, pin and unload. I know its just one additional step, but I was never trained to do it. what are the dangers, injecting into a blood vessel?? If this were to happent, does it make the shot useless because its in your bloodstream, or are we talking dangers like blod clots and or stroke?? Tnx for your help with this, again they didnt train me right (obviously)

Yes, there's always the risk of an adverse reaction if injected directly into the vein, including clotting from embolus.

I've only seen blood come up one time out of 100's while doing a quad shot. Use the right length of needle in the according muscle group, and 99% of the time you will be fine.

Don't dwell too much on the "what if's" with pinning. I've never seen a member end up in the ER. Treat it like a car ... Have control and confidence with it, but also have respect for it by giving it your undivided attention when it's needed.

One of the Afghan army guys was trying to cycle while I was over there. He had our medic jabbing him for a while but when our medic went home for 2 weeks of R&R he kept jabbing himself. he managed to hit the nerve with a HUUUUUUUGE needle. It was not a very pretty situation, so I would advise upper outer quadrant of the glute or quads, it is always safer to aspirate and DONT FORGET TO CLEAR ANY AIR BUBBLES! Also you should always check the needle to make sure nothing is on it or in it. Sometimes pieces of the sheath come off. other than that like it was said be confidant but careful

What do you mean by "don't forget to clear any air bubbles?"

I have ended up with gear in my blood twice, despite always aspirating. The cough is awful. Things will go wrong on occasion, just remember not to freak out.

i believe he means make sure all air bubbles are out of the syringe before you inject. i too have hit a small vein and felt it rushing to my head, started coughing and almost drooling but it went away rather quickly!

What if you aspirate and blood enters the syringe? Can you just pull it out and stick yourself in another location, or is the test now ruined and you need to start all over?

Just change needles and stick again.

I guess I'm rugged, I just pull out and relocate, she likes it too.

As far as air in the syringe goes.....I purposely leave a small air bubble and always aim down slightly while injecting, that small bubble will push the remaining few drops out of the barrel of the needle and into yo ass cheek, "waste not want not". If I'm not mistaken it actually takes a huge amount of air to cause a problem even when injected into a vein, enough so that I hardly think one could do it accidentally, at least not while sober.

It depends as far as an intra muscular I would still try to avoid it but if you got air into a larger vessel it could possibly cause a stroke

We are talking about IM injections that accidentally end up in a vein.

It is estimated that 300 to 500 mL of gas introduced at a rate of 100 mL/sec is a fatal dose for humans, I'd say it would be hard to cause an air embolism accidentally while injecting 1 ml of test with a small air bubble in it. It is noted that as little as 20 ml could do some sort of damage but when was the last time you had an extra 20mls of air in with your test injection. Bottom line is that you should aspirate so you dont inject your TEST into a blood vessel.

Yeah I do the same. I leave a little air in the syringe so I can get all of the oil out. I always aspirate to make sure but then again I only inject in quads and glutes. From what I have read if ur in the right spots it's next to impossible to hit a vein but I follow the better safe then sorry method.

It's all about needle length if you have no ass don't go using 1 1/2 2" needles I have no fat and use 1" needles. some guys can use 2" and never hit muscle LOL.....
