    What is a skin tag?

A skin tag is a common, benign condition which consists of a bit of skin that projects from the surrounding skin and may appear attached to the skin. Skin tags can vary quite a bit in appearance. They may be smooth or irregular, flesh colored or more deeply pigmented, and either simply be raised above the surrounding skin or have a stalk (a peduncle) so that the skin tag hangs from the skin.

    Where do skin tags occur?

Skin tags can occur almost anywhere there is skin. However, favorite areas for tags are the eyelids, neck, armpits (axillae), upper chest, and groin.

Who tends to get skin tags?

They are much more common with age beginning in middle age and they tend to be somewhat more prevalent in women than men.

Is a skin tag a tumor?

Yes, it is in the sense that it is a growth. However, it is a benign (harmless and not a malignant) condition.

What does a skin tag look like under a microscope?

The outer layer of the skin (the epidermis) shows overgrowth (hyperplasia) and it encloses an underlying layer of skin (the dermis) in which the normally-present collagen fibers appear abnormally loose and swollen.

<script></script> What problems do skin tags cause?

Usually none. This tiny skin growth generally causes no symptoms unless it is repeatedly irritated as, for example, by the collar or in the crotch.

    How are skin tags treated?

In cases in which a skin tag is irritated or cosmetically unwanted, treatment may be done by freezing the tag with liquid nitrogen, tying off the tag with a thread or suture so as to cut off the blood supply, or cutting off (excising) the tag with a scalpel or scissors.

Is there another medical name for a skin tag?

A skin tag is medically also termed a cutaneous papilloma or an acrochordon. However, a skin tag is best known as a skin tag.

    Skin Tag At A Glance

    • A skin tag is a common but harmless skin growth.
    • Skin tags are frequently found on the eyelids, neck, chest, armpits, and groin.
    • Treatments include freezing, tying off with a thread or suture, or cutting off.

    Lol...you wait bro.

Funny this thread was started. I had two removed by a doc friend, just a quick slice with a blade, a few years ago. Son of a biatch, a few months after gh they came right back so yes, there seem to be enough of us saying so that they come back.

And for you guys that haven't hit your middle age yet, keep laughing...you'll be there too one day.

So middle age AND GH use is more likely to lead to skin tags?? Damm, that is depressing as I am using one and approaching the other.

Never heard of them on your penis.. I've had one in my armpit for years. They look like a little wing coming from your skin. here's an example

    A larger example:

The question is though, could it have been there all along? I know you can have something that resembles a skintag from a poorly executed circumsision.

I have a couple in the armpits. Asked the doc about it and he said wearing a tight fitting shirt can cause them. Don't know about the rest of the body though. When I first saw them I was like great, now I am really getting old.

I think that is bogus about the doc saying tight shirts causes them?? what the heck! It is predominately are sign of aging and changing hormone levels. I know many senior citizens that live in warm weather year round never wearing shirts or very loose fitting and they get them. What does the doc say about the eyelids, they are never clothed? Perhaps warm/humid/perspiration may be a factor in accellerating the tags but surely not the cause.

LOL my Player daze are past me. I just have to convince her of that. I was tested for all std's for insurance reasons so its not that. I been telling her that the tags are for her pleasure. Thanks for the comments.

Yeah I thought that explanation was pretty weak too.

you cant test for HPV. Get them tested out, you dont want to deal with any bad crap. I don't mean it like you are a diseased person, but for your own sake.....and so you climb to the top of a mountain and scream "I have herpes" (go valtrex)
