Does it need to be active for a certain amount of time for it to work? Hypothetically if I had to take a week off in the middle of a 25 day cycle would I be wasting the cycle?

why do you need to come off?
your better of waiting then till you can do a full cycle.although it will bring gains.my first igf cycle i runned it only on mon/tues and thurs/fri for 5 weeks and saw some nice gains.

I have to come off because I just found out I am goin on vacation.
if you allready started then i would wait atleast 4 weeks get some more and start all over.
