    Inguinal Hernia...."Survey"

    Hey dudes,

I got a bulge right near the groin area in the lower part of my abs muscles on the right side. Not too big...but enough to sub-consciously bother me as i feel it whenever i cough or take a dump.

The Most common operation is out-patient where they put a mesh into you and patch the tear in the stomach wall. But there is another where they actually go in and sew the hole up. Its a little more elaborate and costs more....but supposedly its a safer procedure in the long run.

And some Dr's don't even recommend it anymore...

    WTF?
Inguinal Hernias Treatment: New Facts About Surgery - YouTube

    QUESTION (s)

    1. Has anyone had the Mesh put in and had bad results?
    2. Has anyone done this procedure without the Mesh?

Just trying to get some feedback on this before i proceed.

thanks in advance for your input!

About 6-7 yrs ago. Mesh put in. No issues. Asked him to put one in on the other side while there just in case but he refused. Laparoscopically repaired.

In a hospital. I chose laparoscopically to avoid scars. Recovery sucked though. You'll be walking around in a day. Bullshit. Unless you choose to never lay down. Getting up's a bitch after this. I ended up sleeping in a lay-z-boy so I could use the handle to get up. Worked great.

Had a hernia repaired back around 1988. Didn't have the mesh put in. Scar about 1 1/2" long. Missed a week of work but I should have taken about 3 weeks. Whatever you do move around....don't just sit still. As Kel said getting up is a bitch but the more you do it the less scarring you'll have. Whatever you do don't sneeze. Had ZERO problems after surgery.

Hmmm....i'm pretty sure all of the iguinial hernia's are done lapo....Unless its a major tear.

I think out patient...they say the operation takes about 1 hr...and they send your arse home with a bunch of pain-pills. Probably F~%$ed up for a few days....before you can even move.

Not looking forward to it AT ALL!

Isnt that just stupid? I was thinking the same thing that if i had something like that done/fixed why not do the other side also (since you are in there) because you know there is a good/better chance it will go also eventually.

I had the mesh put in. No scope, old school 4" incision. Had it done in the hospital, went home the same day.

stayed in constant motion the next day....constant slow-motion.

Most difficult thing was getting my socks on. And I sneezed a couple of times, that was enough to take me to a new level of understanding the universe.
