Sounds like a partial tear or could be still swollen, how long has it been since the strain. i have the same thing and mine is still there but mine is an indention more than a knot but a knot could be a sign of the muscle tear balling up. Did u use ice and ibuprofen ?

mri is magnetic resonance imaging or something like that. They put you in this machine and it slowly takes lots of pics and then computer puts them together to form a pic. U would know it if you had one, much bigger machine than xray and you must stay completely still for a long time. this is lousy explantion but basically that is it. I have had several over the years.

good explanation, it is like an x-ray for soft tissue, it is a diagnostic test, and it would show if you have a tear or if you don't and also would let you know how sever the tear is. it is a must! if you still have pain and it isn't getting better go back to the ortho and suggest an mri to see wtf is going on

only way to fix this problem is to know how bad it is , and the only way to find out is the MRI. from there the doc can tall you if surgery or conservative rehab will help. do you have an ortho doctor?
