When my son was about a year old he had a fever for a week and they couldn't figure out what was causing it. They did a spinal tap on him using a needle prob. that size. He was crying so bad from the pain that he wore himself out and fell asleep. It was so difficult to witness that.

Oh man that would be hard to watch.

OP, be careful about the cortisone shots. #1 no working out for 2 weeks I believe and no more than 3 shots total in one are because it will begin to damage the tendons and thinning of the bones.

Why are they doing this? Was it into the muscle or next to the spine? Did they have you in a sitting or standing position and leaning/arching forward? If yes then it was an Epidural steroid (corticosteroid) injection.

Ive had a few. 1st wasnt bad, 2nd one hurt like a bitch. 3rd time I damn near passed out. I swear he was pushing on the spine even though he had some sort of xray showing him where the pin was.

I hope it helps you, it never did much of anything for me. Ice works 10x better if you do it right but again, you have to do it right or it's a waste of time.

Dont ask to see it until they are done. That's what I did. Actually you can watch. They had a monitor set up for one of mine sort of like an live xray showing the needle going in towards the spine so he knows where to stop and is sure it's between the vertebrae.

I've been having lower back pain and the muscle relaxers weren't working so they gave me the shot. I was in the standing up when they did it.
