    Back brace or not

Finishing my second week back at the gym, after being off for 5 months, 8 weeks since my surgery, doing mainly a cardio style workout, one hour fast pace light weight. Next week I want to start more traditional weight lifting, bench press, squats, curls, ect...of course light weight still, curious on thoughts of wearing back support brace or belt, is it a good idea. Surgery was a microdiscectomy btw.

Sure if it limits your mobility to prevent injury. Or adds stability. I don't like them cuz they get in the way of my range of motion. I also never use gloves. Sissy stuff lol got to get Caliced hands

Honestly the doctor doesn't know I'm working out, I go see him on Monday and he's supposed to have me start physical therapy, probably a month twice a week..the cardio that I'm doing now doesn't seem to be affecting my back very much pain scale 3 or 4, was thinking a belt for squats probably a weight to start out of 135 pounds, I weigh about 230. Back brace for about a month...no dead lift,,but I would like to start weighted lunges, bulgarians, chest, arms, shoulders just not standing..ect

Starting PT almost 2 months after surgery? That sounds a little odd to me. You need to tell your doc about your training. He needs to know what you've been doing and how you're feeling. Me personally I tend to go by how I feel and take the doc's recommendation under advisement. Not that that is the best thing to do but I'm a little stubborn and after this long I know how things feel and when to stop.

Now for the disclaimer: You need to follow your doctor's advice.
