    Whats the best way to compress pic for Avatar?

    I use photoshop to edit my pictures, however it seems I am having trouble getting pictures to less than 20k I can get them, but I cant seem to do anything larger than 100width

    I noticed a lot of peoples avatar's are like 6k.... ??

    if u have microsoft office they have MS Office Picture Manager....you can resize it with that to the proper size

    make sure your pic is under 150x150 pixels. next, make sure you save it as a JPEG and lower the picture quality so that it's under the 19k limit. When I use photoshop I save my pics at about 8/12 quality for my avatar and have no problems.

    If you have Adobe Photoshop instead of going to SAVE or SAVE AS, select SAVE FOR WEB and it assist you with gif compression. Gif is a ggod way to compress avatars by throwing out colors that you don't need - sometimes cutting the file size in half - and download time. You can also select to save as a transparent gif to get rid of the boxed background (like my avatar)...

    Your avatar was still sitting at 20k... not good considering it's nearly monochromatic. Check my attachment... it looks identicle to yours, except my version is 3.88k at downloads in under a second with a broadband Internet browser... 2 sec @ 28.8kbps... I simply did the SAVE FOR WEB but brought your color pallet down to 32 colors...

    Nevermind spoke to soon - thats a good compression dude - got your new avatar down to 2.4k...
