Rack Deadlift, 675 lbs
I do rack deadlifts as they are easier on my lower back and I still feel I get the benefits of heavy back work even with the limited range of motion. Some of the strong guys on here might not think much of this but for me its a new personal record at 43 yrs old.

Good lift. I dont do rack deadlifts, but what I will do sometimes is a regular deadlift but start knee to waist height just to get the first rep started, then go all the way to the floor.

rack dead lifts are good but not good enough imho, full range of motion,i can d/l another 100lbs from the rack but what for? a favorite of mine is watching guys squat 700lbs they start off parallel and end up almost upright by the time they come to the big weights.impressive lift bro.

i personally feel that rack deadlifts dont give u the full benefit of range of motion .
this pic sorta reminds me of guys who rack 6+ plates and " attempt " to do squats and who go like 2 inches down and say yea i squatted 600 pounds .
post a video mate , that would be a little more convincing .
not a flame .. its just eh i duno ..

Like I stated in the first post, I do racks because deads off of the floor hurt my lower back. The way Im built, I cant lift off of the ground without rounding my back. Im nooooooo power lifter. But Im still happy with this lift.

I feel it is a great exercise. When I do them, I leave the gym with my back feeling the same way it woudl as if I jsut did floor DL's. I get all the benefits from rack deads I feel like, that I would get from floor DL's. Of course, the legs wouldn't be incorporated as much, but my whole reason for doing deads is to hit the back anywyas, not legs. I have a seperate day for them anyways. I think people jsut jump to conclusions b/c they just lookat the exercise and think liek ohh I could do that, it's on the rack half way up the shin GO ahead ant try it. The weight is still heavy!
I used to do floor DL's and loved them, until one time I took a week off, came back into the gym and did my first working set (light weight still) with 405 and was using perfect form. It tweaked the sh1t out of my lower back right where it connects to the hip, and Icouldn't bend over for days much less squat, or DL for 2 months!! And even after that I had to ease back in slowly!! Ever since then I say f*ck floor deads, it jsut puts too much unnecessary strain on the lower lumbar region. I get all the same benefits that I am shooting for with rack deads. Every now and then I will do a set or two of deads from the floor, but never with anythign heavier than I can do for 8-10 reps. My deads fromthe floor have gone up consistently as well with jsut the incorporation of rack deads. "DOn't knock it till you try it."
P.S. TO the thread starter- Great lift bro!! Thats some nice weight, you look thick as hell too man. Keep truckinLast edited by spound; 02-26-2006 at 03:30 PM.

like i said great lift but if you do them correctly you shouldnt have back pain, they strengthen the back muscle.but if u have a prolapsed disc or something like then fair enough.i guess i just see them as cheating.

Forget the naysayers you did a great lift for rackdeads. I could not pull that much so good for you.
now to the rest of you that are jumping on this bro you should rethink before posting this crap. We are here to encourage each other not try to bust people down.
If this guy said I do Dead lifts at 675 and then proceeded to back peddle and say.. oh i meant rack deads blah blah blah.. then yeah call him on it but he was specific right away on what he was doing.
We all know of an 18 year old that squats 800+ pounds and never showed any proof and calling someone out a little on that is one thing but this bro did nothing wrong so why all the hate?

Thanks for the positive comments guys. I really do appreciate it.
I posted this because I thought it was a cool pic. Most of the pics I take aren't worth posting. The guys that some how think that this is a worthless excersize should most definitely try it, at their maximum weight. Its the "heavy" weight that makes it work. I don't even start to feel it deep down until I reach 495.
It's not for legs so much as for the back. It makes it thick!
Sorry for the quality of this pic.

oh and by the way , i could do 7 plates if i wanted to .. even if its was for 1 rep .. and i would do it off the floor . maybe when i feel like being a show off i'll even make a vid

BTW, stiff legged deads are for your hams not your back. I do them too, on ham day. If you want to work your spinal erectors try rack deads. Once again, I said spinal erectors, not legs. Although, if done correctly, you should feel rack deads all the way to your toes.
Here are a couple of sites that might help you understand. I would draw you a picture but I dont think that will help. But, there is a video link.

The rack pull is a great exercise... good job hitting the PR... as a powerlifter that has pulled over 700+ in numerous competitions I can attest to the usefulness of the rack pull... imo it is the best way to work the top end and lock out of your dead... and anyone who thinks this exercise is useless probably isn't too concerned with deadlifting anyway... a little side note I use rack pulls sparingly do to the fact that they are so taxing on the body.

Thanks for posting the pic. You've got a very impressive build for 19 years old.
Bro, I never said I was the strongest or the biggest on this forum. Im not even the strongest at my home town gym. Read my original post again. I posted the pic because I thought it was a cool pic. And, it was an accomplishment for ME!
If you don't like my pic or the excersize, MOVE ON! Im sure there is a puppy somewhere in your neighborhood you could be kicking right now.
You say Im not that impressive. I didn't claim to be. But, I think Im much thicker then you! Dude, you couldn't hold my gym bag.

I know you said your physique was not impressive, but sir, I beg to differ. I think you look awesome, especially considering your age. Your back thickness is the first thing that stands out to me...hmmm....could it be the rack deads of course. Not only does your back look great, but you have the rest of the physique to go along with it. I hope I look that good at your age...you look like your 30-35 man. I love it...

Thanks for the comments guys. Your right Daytrader. I was natural until July of this year. Now...Im SUPERNATURAL! Im on my 2nd cycle now leading up to a national qualifier.
I thought twice about posting this because I didn't want to deal with any haters. Omni is entitled to his opinion. But his lack of knowledge is disturbing.

That video is awesome. I don't know how big max is, but from what I can tell about his size that looked pretty impressive. For me, 5 plates is when I can really start to feel it. 3-4 plates is just warm-up. My new camera will take video but Im not sure how long. I'll check it out.
