My Grandfather in the day
This is a pic of my grandfather from back in the 40s before WW2.I think he was in his 20s. No supplements, Drugs, and not that much equipment just food. People tell me that he was a monster

Looking at a pic from so far back really shows you how times and perceptions change. Like people's idea of monster, or big strength. I mean your gramps was obviously right up there with the boys of his time, but man do times change. A guy with that build is now sorta average among gym types at least.

I think that is awesome that you still have those pics. One thing you have to remember back in those days, people his size were like an arnold back in the 70's and 80's.
The health physicians, didn't know half of what we know now. I am sure at that day and time he was probally considered a true marvel of his time.
