New Kid on the Block
Hey guys,
I'm a 21-year-old student, and I've been seriously investigating anabolics within the past year as something I might want to pursue in the future.
I started working out when I was 16, and I wasted the first few years of my training with 50 set bodybuilding splits 7 days a week--lots of lateral raises and lots of curls.
I always took my weight training seriously, but I didn't really understand what I was doing until about a year and a half ago. The summer before last (19 at the time), I realized that I should probably start squatting, and since then, I haven't looked back.
I'm 6'4", 280#, around 12% body fat
My best gym lifts include:
340 bench (belt, wrist wraps, heavy elbow sleeves)
440 squat (no belt, wraps, elbow sleeves)
580 deadlift (belt)
I want to total elite in my weight division in the next three years, and I want to try to get it clean. Once I have built a substantial base strength, I want to commit myself to bodybuilding, with the hope of one day getting a pro card. When my finances allow, and I am in a position where I am willing and able to pursue anabolics, I think I would make the jump.
Until then, I just want to learn as much as possible about what I'm getting into--the good and the bad.
I welcome advice, direction, or any initiation that you might wish to bestow upon me
See you around

Welcome to the forums.
You're 21, 6'4" and 280lbs? 12% bodyfat? Either you have the diet/training technique of the century, or I need pictures. Especially if you have only been working out properly for 1.5 years.

Dyabolic,
That's impressive! You must have the genes of a Viking! If bodybuilding doesn't workout we may someday see you on ESPN's Strongest man competition. But on a serious note, getting anywhere near a pro card without years of supplementation of AAS including everything else seems highly unlikely. You're young still and it's good for you to be unwilling to just try AAS to jump ahead. Good luck! But like krugerr says, pictures should be forthcoming.

I'll get some pics up soon.
Keep in mind that walking around at 280 isn't anywhere near competing at 280. I dieted down this past fall and was carrying about 5% body fat at 240. I lost about 12 pounds in the first 36 hours from water weight, glycogen, GI content, etc. Compared to guys like Jay who step on stage at 280 at 5'9", I'm a shrimp. Michael O'Hearn, 4 time "Natural" Mr. Universe is about my height and claims to be 276 at 5%. Compared to those guys, I feel like (and am) a tiny piece of shit.

I don't want to BE a pro. I'm not trying to make a living off of it. I just want to do well enough in a national meet to get the card--not win Olympia. That being said, I also don't care if I get it from the IFBB or something like the INBF. I just use the pro card as something to strive for.
