Zell Miller's speech
All I can say is wow. What do you guys think? I don't think I've ever seen a politician slam someone in their own party, much less their entire party, so thouroughly. He's an old school Democrat like Truman, Roosevelt, or Kennedy. It hadn't really dawned on me how far left the Democrat party had gone (and how far left the Republicans have gone as well).
Just something to think about: John F Kennedy is the penultimate Democrat. One of the most revered modern Democrat president ever. When John Kennedy ran against Richard Nixon, he campaigned that America should elect him because Nixon won't spend enough on defense. Today he would be labeled a right wing nutcase.
The Democrats of the 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s were as conservative on national defense as the Republicans are today. Franklin Roosevelt, or John Kennedy would never have even thought to ask the United Nations PERMISSION to defend ourselves or our interests. I think every other President we have ever had would have paled at the thought of having to ask permission to defend ourselves. (Well, all of them except for Carter anyway.)
Sorry for rambling on. His speech just got me thinking.

I watched the Republican convention speeches yesterday, both speeches were outstanding. Both told it like it is. Both gave serious thought to John Kerry’s record. I didn’t hear a single slam at him personally which I respected. All the comments were regarding his political achievements, (or lack there of).

Speeches are dung......both sides......speeches mean nothing compared to actions.....and what are the actions.......tax breaks for the ultra rich......HUGE trade and budget deficits.......no WMD- our pretext for war(passing blame).......no closure and none in sight in either Afghan or Iraq......sabre rattling at Iran and N. Korea in spite of a spread too thin military and no meaningful negotiation by the man himself(I don't think he knows what the word diplomacy means)......more percentage of people in poverty.......overtime pay reduction......continued outsourcing of the best jobs in America......little or no corporate reform to prevent the raping of companies by their complacent boards and irresponsible CEOs......where's the leadership?....the man GW's a joke of a president and deserves to be voted out.
