I am against congress helping any business that isn't absolutely necessary for the wellbeing of the nation.
So yes I agree with you on this issue Badgerman.

Yep, makes no sense to do anything but shut those tobacco farms down. Even less sense to keep 'em open and subsidize 'em with tax money. Even less sense than that to buy cigarrettes and smoke 'em. But if they didn't, guess how many votes they'd lose in Tobacco Country?
Nevertheless, if anyone wants to grow their own on their own land, that's their right.

Look at it this way. Buyouts suck ass but at least a one time buyout is like a stop loss, better than giving more and more aid every year. Farm aid makes me puke, why not gas station or restaurant owner aid? GVT should not support family businesses of any kind.

I say close all the bloody tobbaco farms and open up hemp farms.
Make cloth, oil, food, fuel, and then adventially make pot for all to smoke if they wish.
I dont believe myself that pot should be illegal, or at least not being treated under equal terms with cocain, heroin, Ecstasty and so forth. (sorry for rambling off topic)

It also creates billions of dollars in health care expense by causing cancer, emphazema (sp?), heart disease, etc. Plus, tobacco farmers get government $$$ in the way of farm subsidies, more billions of $$.
Tally up the cost and expenses, and tobacco is a big drain on the economy, not to mention the scourge on public health. On top of that, it's nasty . . . kissing a smoker is like kissing an ashtray. Yuck.
