This will be one wild election......
Iraq's Independent Electoral Commission has approved 180 political parties to run candidates in the January 30 elections, commission spokesman Dr. Fareed Ayar said Tuesday. The Iraqi Islamic Party has been approved to participate in the election, Ayar said. In the past, the party has threatened to refuse to take part as protest against the government-supported anti-insurgent campaign in Falluja.

having a lot of parties is much more common in parlimentary type systems - which is likely what they are going to have eventually - more like India than the US - and lots of small parties then make deals with each other to come up with a majority - it is a fairly good way of distributing power among lots of interest groups but it can lead to instability at times if the association of parties breaks up, the government can dissolve and new elections be called.

Hasn't an organized group threatened to attack all polling places and/or kill anyone involved in running the elections?

Hes right its not gonna be pretty. They will end up fighting each other over the election. These people cant handle a goverment like ours. They need someone to kick their azz when they get out of line.
It would be intresting to see how many of the canidates are muslim clerics.

The only thing that would be better is if Bush wasnt so liberal with this war. He needed to kick their azz and take Saddam and then leave and let them rebuild their own country. This country like all other arab countrys are gonna be unstable. They really do need goverments like the Taliban and Saddam to them in line. Other wise the different muslim sects will allways be fighting each other for power.
The idea of policing an arab country is rediculous to me. Im all for getting out and leaving them hanging. They are gonna do this their way in the end anyways.

Sending money only leaves u with about 3 super millionaires and a country full of starving people , because arab countires have a 'filtering' system in which donated money goes through 'the authority' and then the pennies that are left go to the people.
