Thread: Genetic enginering

Why does this go against most religions? Whats the reason for it??
Is cross breeding also agains religions cause thats almost the same thing just dumbed down.
In that case we should imidietly kill every dog on earth cause they are not a creation of god, they are the creation of man. They exist cause we tampered with nature.
I can understand how many fear it(mostly uneducated people), but to claim that its agains a religion I dont understand....
Isnt the hydrogen bomb, napalm or any other military invention during the last half century a hell of a lot more viscious then genetic enginering.....

Well, it is the souls that I feel we posess as humans that cannot be made by man, at least not in the complete sense.
Nowhere in the Bible does it state Thou Shalt Not Clone!
Scientists and the medical cummunity are pushing for this.
It says God made man in his own image, now man wants to make man in HIS (mans) own image. To me that is playing the role of God. I fear that there will be consequenses of some sort, if not by God then by the whole cloning process, and mankind will feel it's weight.
To me this goes deeper into philospophy than religion. I took philosophy in H.S. and College and it's a nice way to banter around theories but no one comes to a clear conclusion. To me this issue is more what someone personally feels rather than a religious doctrine. I see no good out of the cloning of human beings. IMHO.

But not just cloning. How do you feel about stem cell research? About growing organs in labs and stuff like that?

as far as stem cells I believe they can get them from umbilical cords? If so I see no problem personally on growing organs and tissue if we have the technology. My02.

So your against the fact that bush almost put a stop to all stem cell research in the usa?

Many would say the opposite:
Man created God in his own image.

What makes the bible any different than the fables of the greek and roman eras? What makes your god real and says that the Indians were wrong in their belief of many gods throughout nature? How do you know that David Koresh wasn't Jesus Christ returning? How do you know that Jesus Christ hasn't already returned to take everyone back to heaven and you were simply left behind because you didn't earn your way. In the bible it says that you won't even know that he came and left. So possibly, it already happened.
But I doubt it since it's simply a fable.
All religions are essentially the same. They are all moral guidelines that some poeple need in their day to day lives in order to scare them into being a good person.
I get my moral values from my parents and from my own intelligence. I don't need fables to run my life.

plz keep this about religious views on genetic enginering and not a debate about if god is a creation of the human mind

I think science has led to the weakening of humans, and the encouraging of disease. It is time for us to use genetic engineering to make up for these mistakes.

If you want to break it down, we have and are creating new diseases accidentally all of the time via industrial revolution byproducts.
Johan to the answer of your question , if the stem cells come from what I feel the correct moral sources, umbilicals, embryos I think it would be invaluable. An egg alone is not a human being nor is a sperm cell.
Once they meet the lovely couple should have every opportunity to produce a healthy infant IMO.

I see they can now take a paralized mouse and make it walk again, I know they grow human ears on rats. Everything Outweight's in favor of technology and Genetical E. So 1victor if a Guy has bad MPB and has a hair transplant is that against god's will? He did create that guy to be born bald? Steroids could also be looked at as playing god. Personally, Relgions are more worried about their own ego than what's really right IMO. Relgion does not have the ground to say what's right and wrong, cause if realgion was that black and white their would only be 1 relgion that everyone would follow. Once relgions stop this crazy hold back, their will be some wonderful things happening. I have always thought about all the great things that would happen if they started creating kids with IQ's over 200 and lots of them. It seems that your most Educated, Smartest, Richest, and best looking people are having the least amounts of kids these days. If God has this all planned out I sure don't like the plan.

Odin, It will be the wealthy that can only aford to genetically engineer children, the cost will be too great for most anyone else. Now you have an even more elite class physically, mentally, appearance wise. On and on it could and would go until there will be 2 species. A super race of the wealthy and the average joe. I don't like the way THAT sounds in the end.
As far as hair transplants, growing organs etc.... no problem.

Adding genetic engineering to the available resources available to the uber wealthy isn't that big a step at this point. Only only has to hope that at some point those resources will trickle down to the common man like you and I.

Seriously most of the "elite" old money are inbred morons. With degrees paid for by grants from their families and jobs through connections. I'd like to at least keep them stupid!
