A Message to Books 555- Find a new religion...
Obviously Books, you have a need for argumentative combativeness in order to "convert others" (aka brainwash them) into members of your Christian cult in which you are probably the only member. You have done nothing constructive, only try to start fights with others and ignore their points of view completely with false arguments. Your religion has failed you because you're not fighting for the right cause. If all other Christians followed your example and prevailed, all other religions would be eventually banned and persecuted. Please don't dig up controversy and get buried...for your own sake.

Something like that. I am giving the intellectual arguement for christianity. I dont know why you call it brainwashing. I call teaching youg children macro evolution as fact brainwashing. You have the option to prove me wrong. I would be glad to talk about any of my statements concerning christianity.

even if it turns out to be wrong?? what do you mean? is it brainwashing if we only teach our kids that religion is the only way and fact?? im assuming youd say yes. theres no proof of macro evolution and if you teach it as fact then thats just as wrong.

Truth and falsity have nothing to do with brainwashing. To avoid brainwashing, objectivly teach all significant points of view. The brainwashing problem is apparent down south where school systems place ban's evolution, and only teach creationism; here in jersey they teach both.

Reality is nothing but an individuals interpretation of what they are observing...or at least they think they are observing. How can we claim to know or not know something so mysterious, we we can't even prove our immediate surrondings.
Science is fact to the best of our knowledge. It's based on the evidence we have at the time. For instance, the earth being flat. They weren't brainwashing children by telling them the earth was flat, they were telling them the truth; as far as they knew...just like we are doing now. As far as we can tell, the earth is an ellipse...but who knows what will come of that...
Gravity is considered to be a fact many, when it's actually still just a theory.

CO2BOI: theres a difference between scientific theories and scientific facts. Example, the earth being flat. It was a theory and there was no fact to back it up. And that is why there were those who went out to get the facts. "as far as we know" does not make it fact. It may make it a good theory and a good probability, but its not fact.
SMYL_GR8T: macroevolution is not a fact. its a theory.

The scientific method is the process by which scientists, collectively and over time, endeavor to construct an accurate (that is, reliable, consistent and non-arbitrary) representation of the world.
I. The scientific method has four steps
1. Observation and description of a phenomenon or group of phenomena.
2. Formulation of an hypothesis to explain the phenomena. In physics, the hypothesis often takes the form of a causal mechanism or a mathematical relation.
3. Use of the hypothesis to predict the existence of other phenomena, or to predict quantitatively the results of new observations.
4. Performance of experimental tests of the predictions by several independent experimenters and properly performed experiments.
A scientific theory or law represents an hypothesis, or a group of related hypotheses, which has been confirmed through repeated experimental tests. Theories in physics are often formulated in terms of a few concepts and equations, which are identified with "laws of nature," suggesting their universal applicability. Accepted scientific theories and laws become part of our understanding of the universe and the basis for exploring less well-understood areas of knowledge.
As far as "Scientific Facts" go, only "Facts" exist. There is no distinction between scientific facts and unscientific facts, just as there are no such thing as "True Facts" or "Untrue Facts."
Compare information gleaned from the Scientific Method to what is preached from the pulpit in churches, and you'll notice a rather large difference. Information accumulated through the Scientific Method is reliable, information delivered from church pulpits is assumed valid because of its antiquity and authority. But if you had to choose, which source of information would you rather rely on?

Ya, there's a BIG difference between the benefits of the Scientific Method and what Religion gives us. Personally, I prefer Science over Religion.

Evolution IS the best theory we have in that field and thats why it should be in every school. High school biology doesnt go deep into evolution anyway.
Teaching creationism however(no offense) would be silly to the extrem since it tells nothing and claims alot. If could be a good part of religious courses but has no place in the science courses.

Your the typical smart ass who cant back up any of his claims. You did well using photoshop. Maybe this is were you are gifted.
Your mistaken, you do not want to know me, unless the Lord allows it. I did not grow up with christianity. I had liver damage at the age of 17. I have done more drugs than you have seen at your age, probably 18and1/2 right. No offense, I would knock you out.

MAKING ur kids go to church and forcing religion upon them at a young age is brainwashing.
10-03-2005, 09:36 PM #31
religion in general causes a great deal of the disagreements, hatred, and overall problems the world has today.
