# Thread: The speed of light and the koran

1. ## The speed of light and the koran

2. thanks dude. now I know how my flashlight works.

3. I guess I should sit down, write a religious book with verses that is incomprehensible and when future scientific discoveries are made Il just go "told you so muther****er, I wrote it right here dont you se".

But for shitz and giggles Il count on the first thing.

The moons Orbital circumference is 2,413,402 km
12000 lunar orbits is 2.8960824*10^10km or 2.8960824*10^13m
There is 86400 seconds in a day
2.8960824*10^13m/86400s=335194722.2m/s=3.35*10^8m/s
Speed of light is 2.99792458*10^8m/s
Off quite a bit even if buying the authors argument.

I dont know why he goes on and on about all the mumbojumbo in his calculations. Probably to try and confuse any reader. Lunar velocity relative to the earth is the only speed we can talk about that makes any sense. Mechanics is deciving in this case since its easy to pic a inertial system that would give the wanted results.
The author also has a nasty habit of using more valid numbers than he should

But the bottom line is that either this is a very poor translation or its suposed to be incomprehensible
"(Allah) Rules the cosmic affair from the heavens to the Earth. Then this affair travels to Him a distance in one day, at a measure of one thousand years of what you count."
Then he goes on to use this verse "The angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in a day, the measure of which is fifty thousand years." to claim that its about time dilation. Well if I intepret it the same way as he did with the first verse it should mean that the spirits travels in one day the same as you do in 50 000 year or some bullshit like that. Nothing about time dilation.

now here comes the real idiocity
"They challenge you to bring forth that torture [in Hell] and Allah will not break His promise; a day of your Lord [Paradise/Hell promise] is like a thousand years of what you count.

Here God promises those who do not believe in Hell and punishment that each day of their torture in Hell will measure a thousand years on Earth. So according to the Quran, time passes faster on Earth than in Paradise/Hell. But this agrees with the theory of general relativity which says that time passes slower near bigger mass. Paradise and Hell are much more massive than Earth and time should pass there much slower than on Earth."
I guess he have visited both hell and paradise

Now this
"And the heaven and the "Knocker" (Tarek in Arabic) 2 How could you know about the "Knocker"? 3 The piercing star (Thakeb in Arabic)."
I aint even gonna touch. But if anyone wants to think its about black holes and pulsars be my guest....

and this beeing about wormholes is equaly ridicilous

"They do not believe the Message, like those who preceded them; 14 Even if We [Allah] opened upon them from the heaven a door and they continued walking through it 15 they would say ‘Our sight is bedazzled, rather we have been bewitched’ 16 It is We [Allah] who have made towering structures in the heavens and made them beautiful for beholders. 17 And We protected them from every evil spirit accursed."
From this quote I assume the author wasnt aware that there was MOUNTAINS back then and anyone that ever climbed one would know it gets harder to breath

Science says that atmospheric pressure decreases with altitude; The higher the altitude the more difficult breathing becomes. Moslems say that this is what Allah says. The Quran says that as we ascend to the sky it becomes more difficult for us to breath:

[Quran 6.125] Those whom Allah wants to guide, He opens their chests to Islam; And those whom He wants to leave astray, He makes their chests tight and constricted, as if they are ascending to the sky: Such is the penalty of Allah on those who refuse to believe.

4. also he seems to not understand special relativity at all. Even if hell was incredibly massive so time dilates it wouldnt matter to those in hell. For those in hell time would seem to go on as usual.

5. I'm terrible at mathematics so this stuff is foreign to me. However, I have read about Islamic scholars back in the Islamic Empire days that stated (more simply than the article posted) that the speed of light is finite...which is true. As for the Qur'an mumbo jumbo, I take that very lightly. It seems the Muslim scholars were extremely smart. So smart, in fact, that they could have probably done it without the Qur'an.
