King Abdullah II: On Iraq and Iran

A great interview with the King of Jordan. Here's a very intuitive quote:

We keep saying that the core problem in the Middle East is the Israeli-Palestinian one, but for the first time, my fear is that if things do not quickly settle in Iraq into an inclusive process that brings stability and security, then the Israeli-Palestinian issue may no longer be the core problem. In that situation, the core problem is going to be based around Iraq, and it's going to be a terrible conflict within Islam—a Shi‘ite-Sunni conflict—which would be devastating for this part of the world."

Israel and Iran are the nations that benefited the most out of the Afghan and Iraqi war.

Iran has two friends in Afghanistan and Iraq, before they had arch enemies in Afghanistan and Iraq.

And the Iraq/Iran ******** will be a huge powerblock in the Middle East in the future. This ******** cannot be stopped by anybody, and their ******** will be interesting to watch. And how this ******** will switch the balance in the Middle East.

Interesting points but don't be so quick to judge. Afghanistan and Iraq are very motivated to become part of the international community and they should be. They have a lot to offer. Iran is in a crisis and their radical leader is not helping his nation. As for Israel gaining from the war: Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iran, and Jordan also benefited in major ways. You need to see that as well.

Yes all those nations "benefited". But Iran benefited the most.

Iran and Iraq are going to be great allies. Jalal Talabani the President and Ibrahim Jaffari the Prime Minister are Iranian backed, even Chalabi is Iranian backed, they were supported by Iran for decades. And the most powerful man in Iraq Al-Sistani and other powerful militia's like the Mehdi Militia are Iranian backed.

I agree that its always been a fear that Iraq and Iran could bond. You're absolutely correct that its a possibility. However, I'm not so quick to judge. Time will tell
