Politics and songs, war and resistance

One of the things I like are political songs, rebels, revolution, war songs.
They put me tremors, the lyrics asking for a change or telling us a sad story, or better hope of better days. Song that were sung by the soldiers going to the front, like Lilly Marleen that was the official songs of the german infantry men aswell as the allied grunts.

Let's hear your songs, I dont care they are zionist, hezbollah, republican, loyalist, nazi, or Marsian war songs, let's hear them

Here my first liking for today

    Grândola vila morena

That song was the cornerstone of the Portuguesse coup d'état, on the 25th of April 1975, Portuguese Army officers backed by the population overthrew 60 years of dictatorship.

The putch was set to Begin when the radio stations would play Grândola vila morena, and so the Army rolled in the city.

    Grândola, vila morena
    Terra da fraternidade
O povo é quem mais ordena
    Dentro de ti, ó cidade

    Dentro de ti, ó cidade
O povo é quem mais ordena
    Terra da fraternidade
    Grândola, vila morena

    Em cada esquina um amigo
    Em cada rosto igualdade
    Grândola, vila morena
    Terra da fraternidade

    Terra da fraternidade
    Grândola, vila morena
    Em cada rosto igualdade
O povo é quem mais ordena

    À sombra duma azinheira
Que já não sabia a idade
    Jurei ter por companheira
    Grândola a tua vontade

    Grândola a tua vontade
    Jurei ter por companheira
    À sombra duma azinheira
Que já não sabia a idade

    in english

    GRANDOLA brown city
    land of brotherhood
the people are the one commanding the most
    in your interior city

    In your interior city
the people are the one commanding the most
    land of brotherhood

    GRANDOLA Brown city

    In every corners, a friend
In every face also, a friend
    GRANDOLA brown city
    land of brotherhood

    land of brotherhood
    GRANDOLA brown city
In every face also, a friend
The people are the one commanding the most

to the shadow of an oak
that I dont know the age
I swore you as my mate
    GRANDOLA at your wish

    GRANDOLA at your wish
I swore you as my mate
under the shadow of an oak
that I didnt know the age

    Joe McDonald...

Oh my name is Joe McDonnell
    From Belfast town I came
That city I will never see again
For in the town of Belfast
    I spent many happy days
And I loved that town in oh so many ways
For it's there I spent my childhood
And found for me a wife
I then set out to make for her a life
Oh but all my young ambition
    Met with bitterness and hate
I soon found myself inside a prison gate

And you dare to call me a terrorist
While you look down your gun
When I think of all the deeds that you have done -
    You have plundered many nations
    Divided many lands
    You have terrorized their people
You ruled with an iron hand
And you brought this reign of terror to my land

    Through the many months internment
In the Maidstone and the Maze
I thought about my land throughout those days
    Why my country was divided
Why I was now in jail
Imprisoned without crime or without trial
And though I love my country
I am not a bitter man
I've seen cruelty and injustice at first hand
    And so one faithful morning
    I shook bold freedom's hand
For right or wrong I tried to free my land

    Then one cold October's morning
I was trapped in the lion's den
And I found myself in prison once again
I was committed to the H-Blocks
    For fourteen years or more
On the "blanket" the conditions they were poor
Then a hunger strike we did commence
    For the dignity of man
But it seemed to me that no one gave a ****
Oh but now I am a saddened man
    I've watched my comrades die
If only people cared or wondered why

Oh may God shine on you, Bobby Sands
For the courage you have shown
May your glory and your fame be widely known
And Francis Hughes and Ray McCreesh
    Who died unselfishly
And Patsy O'Hara, and the next in line is me
And those who lie behind me
May your courage be the same
And I pray to god my life was not in vain

And though sad and bitter was the year of 1981
All was not lost, but it's still there to be won

This song sends shivers through me.

    Chechen National Anthem

We were born at night when the she-wolf whelped,
In the morning, to lion's deafening roar, were named.
There are no gods save Allah.
In eagles' nests our mothers nursed us,
To tame wild bulls our fathers taught us.
There are no gods save Allah.

Our mothers raised us to dedicate ourselves to our sacred land,
And if they need us we're ready to fight the oppressive hand.
There are no gods save Allah.
We were born and grew up free as the mountain eagles,
With dignity and honour we always overcome hardship and obstacles.
There are no gods save Allah.

Granite rocks will sooner fuse like lead,
Than we will lose our honour in life's struggles.
There are no gods save Allah.
Earth will sooner be swallowed up by the broiling sun,
Than we emerge from a trial in life without our honour!
There are no gods save Allah.

Never will we submit and become slaves,
Death or freedom, for us there's only one way.
There are no gods save Allah.
Our sisters' songs will cure our wounds,
Our beloved's eyes will supply the strength of arms.
There are no gods save Allah.

If hunger weaken us, we'll gnaw on roots,
And if thirst debilitates us, we'll drink dew.
There are no gods save Allah.
For we were born at night when the she-wolf whelped.
    God, Nation and Vainakh homeland.
There are no gods save Allah.
