Allowing the people to elect a president stupid?
The more I think about it the more I realise that in countries where the president has a buttload of power the people should not be allowed to directly elect the president.
Lets face it. People in general dont give a shit about the important issues. Just look how easily gay marridge and petty stuff like that can sway oppinion. 10 000 000 stupid votes is worse than 1000 good votes because all the stupidity makes the educated votes meaningless.
So why not set up a system where the people maby elect like 51 or so people that in turn elects the president. It wouldnt totaly remove the stupidity from voting. But atleast it would prevent total idiots from becoming presidents.
What do you think? Is democracy bound to fail because most people just aint sharp enough.

Thats how it work in the Parliamentary system used in the UK and most other Commonwealth countries. We elect the government and the government elects the Prime Minister (President)

Here in swede we elect the parties that constitute the goverment. And the majority party(or the coallition of parties) elect the hmm state minister or minister of state. Dont know correct translation.
But correct me if Im wrong but the prime minister in the UK doesnt have close to the power of the president right?
Our state minister is not supreme comander of the armed forces or anything like that.

I wonder if Democracy and Freedom go hand in hand? Because Democracy is not as imporant as Freedom.
Can a leader be a dictator and still have a country with freedoms?

the point of the electoral college was that the men in power, and thus at the time more educated, and knew the men that were running for the office of president would know the person better, and thus know who would be the better man to elect..
Mob rule is not the manner in which we elect presidents..
And that's a good thingThe answer to your every question
