Right on brah! Welcome to AR - you sound like you have put some quality time into really understanding the game...

Have you read any of Tudor Bompa's stuff? If you like Zatsiorsky - I am sure Bompa will impress you.

    Of those I have read...

Hardcore Bodybuilding: A Scientific Approach >> A very good read... Hatfield explains himself well and I have had great results using the Holistic training approach for hypertrophy that he writes about in this book.

Seriouse Strength Training >> Some more Bompa Periodization. Everything from diet to deffinition perdiodization. I really like Bompa's books. And if you haven't read Periodization and ready for something really hardcore (need to be really familiar with the vocab) then it rates very high - especially for anyone interested in training or coaching others. He fully explains supercompensation in that book. Seriouse Strength Training touches on supercompensation briefly - but is jam packed with a lot of info toward raising limit strength and increasing hypertrophy.

Dynamic Nutrition for Maxium Performance >> A good reference book as well as a good read. Macro's, Micro's, Metabolites, Herbs... all kinds of info that has been stolen and republished in smaller books (I hate it when authors are that lazy) is available in it. It also touches on sport specific training quite often...

Otherwise I haven't read the others.

Look into Power Factor Training too brah - the workouts in their entirity may not be the best - but the idea of calculating a Power Factor Index for workout intensity is a solid one. It puts not just sets and reps in the workout log - but total workout time as well. Also, the great quote - Every workout is a kidney workout! Your muscles grow but your internal organs do not and as you can handle greater loads and intensities you ahve to realize the stress put on our system.

I can go on all day on books... I need to find a good one to read next too. I might check out some of Zatsiorsky stuff - since you mention it. I have only read exerts from him in other books...

Here are the reviews I wrote for MuscleTalk and my site.. on Both Siff's and Zatisorsky book's.

Science and Practice of Strength Training: Vladimir M. Zatsiorsky, Ph.D ; Human Kinetics, ISBN 0-87322-474-4

Vladimir Zatsiorsky is a world renowned sports biomechanist and former coach of the Soviet Union Olympic teams. He understands that there is more to strength then just lifting heavy weights! This is a book for people wanting to get a better understanding of the science behind the art of strength training. He examines strength from the biomechanical and physiological perspectives. He also teaches you how to apply the principles he talks about in his book to your training routine. He has taken data practical work from over 1,000 elite Eastern European Olympic and word class athletes and combined it with scientific backing and presented it to the read in an easy to understand lay out. He also touches:

    Factors in exercise selection
    Injury prevention
    Goal-setting
The controversial topic of periodization and
    Alternative exercise for strength enhancement

Facts and Fallacies of Fitness: Mel C Siff, Ph.D ; ISBN 1-868-183-8

Dr. Yuri Verhoshansky, renowned Russian Scientist who pioneered plyometrics: “Dr Siff is one of the world’s leading specialists in sports science, well-known in many countries. His encyclopedic knowledge is most impressive and is considered by our scientist to be very important for sports science, as it contains valuable unique ideas and practical methods of training in all Sports.”

Mel Siff can best be summed up as a brilliant man who has no equal in life! His major areas of research are biomechanics, ergonomics, strength and conditioning and injury rehabilitation. His book Facts and Fallacies of Fitness addresses many myths today in exercise science using his practical knowledge and the great amount of time he has spend studying exercise since the age of 6. Do you wonder if Olympic lifts are dangerous? Does weight training stunt your growth? Are steroid safe? Do supplements work? He address’s this issues and many more in this great piece of literature.
