335 both hands normal. I put paper towells around the bar, because the bars at my gym are filthy. Does this count as cheating?

ROFLOL @ BigArnie! synthetic, the deadlift is not a display of grip fortitude. If you want a grip contest, do the hercules hold.

Or if you want to REALLY test your grip then try doing the farmer's walk for 180 feet with 300 lb in each hand against time and no putting down and re-gripping allowed. This is one of the events that I'll have to do at our strongman nationals this weekend. Scary.

My best DL with straps was 390lbs x 4. I havn't trained with straps for a few months as i wanted to see how strong i could get my grip. so now my best lift without srtaps and no chalk is 375 x 4. Ive never done a max 1rep DL (or anything for that matter) so i have no idea how much weight i might gain with less reps. i think that my best lift without straps will beat my heaviest with straps within a few weeks though so then i will be happy.

I hit 495 with no chalk (i've actually never used it), straps, belts, etc, but it wasn't pretty. In fact, it was ugly to the point that I don't know I'll be maxing out on deadlift for some time even with any of those implements. That was one hand under, sumo stance, by the way. Lately, I've switched to a traditional stance with both hands over and it feels like an entirely new exercise: 315 is damn hard this way.

615 - raw, no straps, chalk belt. I dont use any of it, except for chalk normally for deads. I dont even own a belt. Close stance too, i dont deadlift sumo style, i hate it.

    375 X 3....

    Anyone have this problem:

If i do light weight I can maintain a good "C" curve in my back throughout the lift and use my legs first to get up and then use my back....On heavy weights I start off down, in proper form, but as start my legs start to lock out but the weight doesnt move much and I end up doing the rep quasi bent over and then getting it up...Should I keep it light then?

BigGreen, why would you use an overhead grip on deadlift instead of an alternate grip? As you said, this decreases significantly the amount of weight that you can handle as your grip will become the limiting factor long before the real deadlift muscles had a workout.

I used to work up to 405 for three to five reps with no belt or wraps but I'm pretty sure I have done it with and without chalk. Out of curiosity why did you say no chalk? I use it if it's there and if it's not I lift without. Does it make a difference for anyone in a deadlift? I could see it making a difference in a farmers walk or something strongman related. Being a grappler, grip has never been the weak link in any of my lifts.

All chalk does is keep your hands dry if you can't lift something w/o chalk .chalkis not going to give you super powers to lift what ever it maybe your trying to lift

Chalk makes a huge difference in grip. For me anyways. I pull over 700 with chalk. Without it, I'd probably struggle at much lighter weights. Not because of muscle strength, but because of grip.

Nice job trls. Today i tied by personal record.. 335 no belt/straps/gloves/chalk/nothing .. which means i'm almost back to where i was in the legs department since my knee surgery. I still haven't squatted over 200.. i don't want to push my luck just yet. Instead i do sets of 20 with 185.
